Nvidia Geforce 8600 GTS

Hey everyone, I just have a simple question of why I can't even set my game to higher qualities such as High or Very High, those two options are greyed out and I cannot even try to select them. I've never had that happen with any of my TW games.

Any ideas?

size of video memory,(windows is saying you don't have enough)
search the tech help forums (or maybe some kindly moderator will just move this to the existing threads)

GTS versions( and definitely 8600 and less) are lower end cards. Game doesn't recognize (or believe ) that is capable of using higher settings.

Search forums for workaround.

That's not quite true, I run an 8600GTM and it works fine.

Windows7 drivers however fail to report the extra shared RAM available to the video card and as a result grey out those options.

185drivers under XP however work like a charm, though TBF I'm not about to start bragging about my frame rate

185 drivers are last decent drivers published by Nvidia. I use them to. 19x.xx are just to messed up.

Don't even bother. I used to have that card (now have gtx 260) so I have some experience with it. It's really not much more capable than an 8600GT or a 6800 ultra. You should be thankful you're running DX10 (assuming you are) and just enjoy the graphics you have. That card will not run Empire in high or very high at any kind of useful frame rate, you can be sure of that. Now I know you're not running an HD resolution, so it would probably be a waste anyway even if you could run the higher settings.

If the gfx aren't good enough just throw in some AA and you'll see that the limits for that card are rather low.

hey! I just installed the game! I'm a bit dissapointed with the game, it has many bugs, for example i cannot hear some sounds, like the cannons or the sound of the firing musketers! Anyway... I have the same card 8600 GT, with 512 RAM and it runs in high/v.high.

Suggestion: try downloading the program "riva tuner". U can boost ur card's capabilities to maximum or u can change the way windows recognize it, for example turn it into Quadro FX high-end card. "RIVA TUNER" google it and u will see or email me if u want help!
