    Portuguese envoys

    Henrique de Meneses, conde da Ericeira (1727 - 1787)
    Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Turin and Rome. He was ambassador to Madrid, in 1785, where he was in charge of negotiating treaties marriage between Infante João of Portrugal to Carlota Joaquina of Spain and Infanta Mariana Victoria of Portugal and Infante Gabriel of Spain.

    António de Araújo e Azevedo, primeiro conde da Barca (1754 — 1817) was an extraordinary minister and ambassador to the Court of The Hague (1787), negotiating and signing the peace treaty between Portugal and France in the same year (a treaty that was not ratified because of the intrigues of the Minister of the Navy and his great enemy, Dom Rodrigo de Sousa Coutinho). The following year, he travels to Germany and devotes himself to the studies of German Science and Literature. He was also Minister Plenipotentiary to the French Republic in 1795, 1797 and 1801.

    Dom Cipriano Ribeiro Freire (1749 — 1824) was secretary in charge of business in the Court of London between 1774 and 1791. He was a member of the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon. He was the first ambassador of Portugal in the United States between 1794 and 1799.
