    I know you are restrained by ETW engine, but what can we hope for the French gameplay in terms of economy and colonies? :

    -For exemple we know the econony wasn't the highlight of French monarchy, because of its feudal system and the way they collected money (to make it short, they didn't know exactly how much money they're going to have at the end of the year, means sometime they spent more money than what they gain = bankrupt). Would it be possible to have a new technology in the tech-tree for the Monarchy (to improve its jumpy income with "Le système de John Law") or for the Republic (to have a stable income, based on the Revolution and Napoleon new laws, such as the central bank etc)

    -What is it in for New-France and the French East India Company? Are they going to be independent at the beginning (for the gameplay) or a part of France (realistic for New-France, less for Indies). The way we used our colonies is quite different from the British and we see the results today (loss of America and India). France was a rich mainland country and France focused its efforts on Europe when Britain needed its colonies to "survive" economically.

    French cultural group should be composed of :
    France ;
    French East India Company (replace Quebec as an independent faction, should be a France's protectorate) ;

    New France could be remove or use to create an emerging French-like faction in Americas or to create a British East India Company faction.

    French monarchy economical system was based on tax "afermage" (leasing (?)).
    In 1726, this system was reorganized to create the "Ferme Générale".
    The goal for monarchy was to have stable incomes, but the only result was to impoverish it.
    This could be an other economy technology for France.

    Law system was experimented in France between 1715 and 1720, but the result was a disastrous bankruptcy (a... financial crash).

    Technology effect can be :
    • Economic prestige
    • Building cost modification (farms, industry_metals, mine, plantations, happiness)
    • GPD modification (all, farms, fishery, indutry_all, industry_metals, industry_textiles, ports)
    • Clamour for reform (happy_clamour_for_reform_all_classes, lower, middle, upper)
    • Marksmanship
    • Fur production
    • Trade route growth rate
    • Growth (all, textile)
    • Max population modification
    • Recruitment cost (land, naval, category_artillery, category_infantry)
    • Upkeep cost (land, naval, category_artillery, category_infantry)
      (technology_effects_junction_tables)

    You can see more effects when opening :
    effect_bonus_value_basic_junction_tables :
    • happiness_active_lower_tax / upper_tax
    • gpd farm / industry / mine / mod_all / port_trade
    • management_finance
    • pop_growth farm / government / port_fishing / tax_modifier / tax_modifier_multiplier
    • maxpop_modifier
    • etc.

    It's only a quick list of what you can read in db tables.
    If nobody already done it, maybe someone could check all tables involve in economy and list them ?
    Maybe something is it possible to have a more accurate economic system ?

    I really like the regiment of the Galeres. I will probably post some screenshots of the units, showing the evolution of the essential troops of the 18th century period so as give an overview of the Evolution of the Uniforms.

    Very nice work Wangrin! When do you think you will be able to start texturing them? Do you already made the full listing of all French early XVIIIth century units? Is it going to be very different from the middle of the century? Oh and I think I already know the answer (read it somewhere on your IS preview), but are the Grenadiers be usable at the beginning or do we need a new technology to unlock them? Cheers

    Early French units' roster will be very similar to mid one but uniforms will be different.

    Contrary to mid XVIIIth era roster :
    • you will have only one light troop unit (Fusiliers de Montagne) ;
    • you will not have Scottish infantry ;
    • artillery will be different, using the "6 calibres de France" system (33, 24, 16, 12, 8 and 4 pounder guns and no difference between siege and campaign artillery) ;

    All troops will be available at the beginning (grenadiers, hussars, etc.).
    Technologies will be necessary to reach the "reforms" that deactivate early era units recruitment and activate middle era ones.

    I will only creates models, Flikitos and other modders will create theirs textures

    Hum, perhaps someone could update the informations in the first post? (like in the other threads) And if you got nice pictures, once all units made, that could be an awesome news for the forum ^^
    PS: need data to complete it!

    France

    France's strength lies in the standardization of its national army, in its regimental system, and its praised and proud cavalry. Artillery relies both on power and mobility but at an expensive cost. Overall, France's strength relies in its large army and defenses.

    The 18th century military history of France encompasses an immense panorama of conflicts and struggles. Participating in all major European conflicts from the Spanish and Austrian succession wars, to the Seven Years' war, France engaged in a long series of wars in Europe, North America and the Indies. At the beginning of the 18th century, France was the dominating power of Europe with king Louis XIV as its flamboyant ruler who had for decades build up a country to face its surrounding ennemies, from the East and West with the Habsburg dynasties and to the North with its hereditary enemies the British.

    La guerre en dentelles et l'esprit chevaleresque

    The armies of Louis XIV were some of the most impressive in Europe and for a long time considered as invicible. Their strength lies in their quality reflecting militaristic as well as political developments.
    Military administration also made gigantic progress as food supply, clothing, equipment, and armaments were provided in a regularity never before equaled. In fact, the French embedded this standardization by becoming the first army to give their soldiers national uniforms in the end of the 17th century. At last, France was also supported by the ingenious military engineer Vauban who designed an intricate network of fortifications for the defense of the country.

    L'esprit des lumières et la Révolution

    ... wip

    The gameplay of France and their military can be summarized into a couple of key gameplay elements:

    1. Regimental system -
    2. Artillery system -
    3. Standardization -
    4. Cavalry -
    5. Foreign Regiments -
    6. La Royale navy - On the will of Richelieu and later Louis XIV, France has established a modern navy capable of countering the powerful British Royal by the end of the 17th century. By the beginning of the 18th century, the French navy, despite several setbacks due to lack of able admirals was one of the most powerful navy of Europe with Britain, Spain and the Dutch. The country had built four powerful military ports and arsenals (Brest, Rochefort, Dunkirk and Toulon), costing a lof of money to the country, were the "Ponant" and "Levant" fleet could rest and repair. France has strong maritime ambitions but its lack of boldness and its continental focus had penalized its navy. After all, unlike England, France didn't need its colonies to survive, it was a continental power.

    France doesn't feel like it has any particular artillery advantage in the early game, is that meant to be?

    The units roster above is the Monarchy one.
    But it will not be particularly different from Republic units roster for early and mid periods.

    But the units roster doesn't show you unit stats nor technologies.
    For instance, French will develop "Réglement des poudres" technology to increase its quality (this will decrease misfire and increase range (if possible)).

    Ahhh, so it's not the size of the shot so much as the other factors that will lend a certain superiority.

    That makes sense.

    Work in Progress : Philosophy techtree (France vs Great Britain)

    France should have a weaker economical system than Great Britain, at least a less developed financial system.
    On the other hand, France will have more Republican technologies and will earn more national prestige for social and natural sciences technologies.

    EDIT : last modifications
