    Default Pikemen...near success!

In manipulating the skeletons file and the EDU...I have very nearly perfected the use of the pike with the use of the sword for such units.

It was all a matter of figuring in how long the CA guys wanted their pikes to be represented...typical at 21 feet! Then getting the personnel spacing of the unit right...in battles where I use my AI...pikemen mow down cavalry and heavy infantry on approach, only engaging with swords if the enemy comes in close enough to be out of the effective pike 'strike_distance'. I will do some more tests and then release my findings!

This comes after having the trifling argument with AlphaDelta over the functionality of pikes with swords...when history clearly dictates that the sword was a secondary weapon...you cannot argue with a brick wall! Nothing is worse than a person whom cannot handle being wrong!

I am not pic or video savvy...the best I can do is give over the data and let you all test it...and soon.

    Observations;

When combat begins the pikemen move into position. Now this isn't a perfect system but undeterred(not motivated by the player - and favorable to the pike unit - )they will engage and destroy oncoming cavalry. Infantry to infantry is a bit more difficult as the unit will face faster motivated and lighter units, which can close fast and get under the pikes(gee, how like in history) If, however, the pikes can time it right they will devastate all and continue until there is not an enemy afield. Mind you, this is observed when units are under AI control. When I started this submod...my Flemish Armies would get plastered by the French. Now one can see why the Flemish held the respect of their peers in battle, near as much as the Swiss.

The skeletons file is a conglomerate effect of SigniferOne's 'skeletons' and mine own...

    Updated!

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downl...o=file&id=2633

Updated! Pikes are now stronger and more apt to use pikes over swords to hold the enemy at bay...switching to swords when the enemy is too close. Works well under player control now. Not going to be fun to have pikemen as enemies.

I will try to get some video of this up.

Do you have just the text you changed for each file? Could that be added to the download?

    Here...

I am trying to upload Fraps clips but the TWC takes a while at accepting 1.1gb of info

Edit...I see what you mean...the main changes are to the EDU and Battle AI so it would be hard to narrow down.

The reason why is because if you use one of Xeryx's AI mods it would over-write some of his files. In the EDU were the changes only done to the pikemen? I'll look into the ai_battle file.

What!?! I don't use any of Xeryx's stuff, save perhaps a revamped campaign_ai in TLR...these are all my modifications. Thanks, but, no thanks. I like it just the way it is. In the EDU, many units are modified, not just pikemen. Many units have advanced attributes.

I think Vegas Bear himself uses Xeryx's mod. I think he asks if your files will not overwrite the mod's files and thus making the mod's changes disappear.

I agree that pikemen should use swords i mean it doesn't make sense when they are out of formation to use a pike or when they have a model that clearly shows a sword.

The link says file not found. How long are those files on the twcenter before it's erased?
