    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=297627

    version 1.0

need to make the helmets and face plates less shiny. A few text changes to the helmet needed. Some units have full face shield and others only half. pic used for ref -- in the middle

I don't know if they ever served with the WRE, but they could be made available only to the barbarian factions as mercs. Visigoths and Suebi particularly.

That is the cream of the Crop Saxon..Most likely a wealthy chief who would have a strong following. I think his appearence is based on the Sutton Hoo burial around 600AD

whether the Western Empire had anglo-saxon mercs, it's possible, particularly considering that they traded slaves along the Rhine from the sea
The Duke of Dunwich and surrounding fiefdom

For any who are interested by my FF on occurrences in Rhun and beyond; I have begun a new project (not because the old one is finished, just opening more room for ideas) about one of the minor characters, Rankal. It is in the Third Age AAR index and here is the link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=376994

The Romano Britains also hired Saxon mercs in their struggles against the picts. I believe that is where the Saxons got the idea of settling in Britain.

True. The merc units will be toned down.

Indeed. They were promised farm lands in south-east Britain in exchange for helping the indigenous Britons fend off attacks from Picts and the Irish, though there is a question of whether the histories "known" of the germanic migrations into Britain are fictitous, exageratted, or are in fact the truth. Culturally speaking, by the seventh century most of what makes up England today had been claimed by the Anglo-Saxons (who in all-likelihood were made up of nearly as many Britons who'd taken on Anglo-Saxon culture than true Germanic tribesmen).
