I thought this was already as easy as possible for it IS a beginners guide! The simple basics first to get battle editor started are explained in the first lines, all you have to do is adding to your vanilla medieval2.preference.cfg file in SEGA/Medieval II Total War/data normally, save it and make it wright-protected, start the game and you should be able to see battle editor under "options", now you can start with creating, just experiment a bit with it first, the rest is mainly self-explainated; if you have further questions, you can post them here.
