    Not sure about the error for vanilla, but this is the one for PDeR:

    11:04:02.859 [script.err] [error] Script Error in mods/PDER_1.0/data/descr_skeleton.txt, at line 61, column 115
    AnimDB: Could not load - 'data/animations/test_weapon/sword_1_primary_0.CAS'
    11:04:02.859 [data.invalid] [fatal] Animation database failed to load!
    Did you mix installations?

    Do the same changes for the log in the main game's CFG file. You have to set that file to 'read-only' after making the changes - the game deletes custom entries there.
    Did you change the installation path when installing, because no mod foldered installation will affect the main game.

    I probably have to reinstall the game as the main data folder has disappeared.

    That's weird, never heard of that. Did you do a search? Not kidding. Search for 'world' - that is the name of the folder that contains all the map files. If you find that, then you will find the rest.

    In case you are having problems in general, have a look here:

    Ugh I wish I could get this to work. I haven't played in forever because I can't reinstall PDER

    My bad. It was late and I was frustrated.

    I thought I did everything the way the installation instructions say to do it, but when I try to start the game it crashes the instant the splash screen comes up. Then I get a cool little error box that reads

    Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will not exit.
    Click OK, and the error (and game) go away. I don't know if it has something to do with the fact that I'm using Steam, or what it is...

    For mod installation for Steam, please refer to this: Creating a World - Mod Install for Steam

    Awesome, except it's been my experience that the installer in this download won't allow you to redirect the installation to another location from the default.

    Simply move (cut\paste) the PDeR installation to the desired directory after the install. This is a simple install without anything fancy like registry entries for uninstallation, so go ahead.

    Now I get an error entitled "CA_LIBS", with the text "Medieval II suffered a fatal error and will now exit.

    Depending on which operating system you have, your installation should then be here:

    32-bit Windows Users:
    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\medieval ii total war\mods\PDeR

    64-bit Windows Users:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\medieval ii total war\mods\PDeR

    Your error seems to indicate that something went wrong there, CA_LIBS usually means the CFG file can't be found (or contains an error). Make sure your PDeR installation is where I indicated above and then repeat the steps with the Kingdoms Launcher App.

    Mod Name: Enter the Name that you wish to be displayed in the Launcher
    Config File: Browse to the CFG file of PDeR
    Language: Should be "English"
    Path: browse to the path of your mod, eg mods\PDeR
    Game EXE: choose whether your mod is for kingdoms or Medieval II

    Ok, so I followed this as best I could: re-copied the PDER_1.0 folder from the install into the mods folder, then made sure I had the launcher app aimed correctly. It does show the PDER_1.0.cfg file in the Config File field.

    I'm still getting the same error, though.

    If this thing some how ends up working, I may not make it to work for at least a week. I miss PDER!!!

    Try posting your query in the thread for the app. Describe your problem in detail - Squid might be able to localize the problem.

    Edit: I hope you corrected my wrong path? (\mods\PDeR) I haven't got PDeR on my hard drive at the moment and didn't remember the correct path.
    It has to agree with the entries in the CFG file and the BAT file - both of them must have the same path.

    Example CFG (opens with Notepad):

    [features]
    mod = mods/Your mod's folder name here

    Example BAT (opens with right click and 'edit')
    start kingdoms.exe @mods\Your mod's folder name here\Name of Configuration file.cfg

    Thanks. I checked both files, and they appear to be correct. I will see what I can find out on that other thread.

    Now that one got something to do with the mod, not the installation (I would guess). Please check the CFG file whether it has the log set to trace, example:
    [log]
    level = * trace
    then run the game again, compress your log (that will reduce the size by 90%) and attach it here.

    Where do I find the log?

    As per your CFg file (path starts at Medieval II Total War):

    [log]
    to = logs/M2TW.system.log.txt
    #level = * trace
    level = * error

    I am not sure with steam, your log file might have disappeared into the Virtual Store (that is if PDeR at least started).

    You have to unhide the Virtual Store to see files in there. Better technical advice on how to do that is available in the Technical forum.
