Thread: Bugs in the 1.4 campaign

  1. #1

Default Bugs in the 1.4 campaign

This thread is for reporting any bugs you find in the 1.4 campaign.

To help me fix these bugs please provide the following information:

    1) What Campaign you were playing.
    2) What the problem is.
    3) What you were trying to do when the problem occurred.
    4) An error log. The error log is 'system.log.txt' file in the 'Medieval II Total War\logs' folder (default location 'C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\logs').

To attach an error log to your post press the 'Manage Attachments' button in the 'Additional Options' menu. This will bring up a pop-up menu where you can upload files.

    1) What Campaign you were playing?
None, this is an installation problem.

    2) What the problem is.
After downloading all 3 parts of version 1.4, I copied all parts of part 1 into the MTW2 directory as it says in the instructions. This occurred successfully.

However, part 2 and 3 will not enter into the directory; every time I try I receive a 7-Zip error message, with a whole list of about 500 errors, all pointing out a file in the mod, I cannot list them all (since it is about 500 in the list, and 7-Zip will NOT LET ME COPY AND PASTE) but they are mostly files about unit models and faction portraits. The error given was: "The file is broken." This was the error given to all files in the error list. I tried to delete the mod part and download it again, but there was no change.

    3) What you were trying to do when the problem occurred?
Again, this is an installation problem, and there is no error log.

Since 7-Zip wont let me copy and paste the error message to here, I will type one error here manually.

Data error in 'mods\conquest\data\unit_models\_units\ln_peasant_padded\textures\ln_peasant_noomal.texture'. File is broken.

    Hope thats all you need.

Part 2 contained the unit models and part 3 contained the character portraits, so this is why you're getting these errors.

The versions of these files that I have are fine, so they may have gotten corrupted after I uploaded them. I'll have to download them and check.

I'd also recommend that you try to get the latest version of 7z in case it's a compatability issue.

UPDATE: I've downloaded part 2 from file front and found it to contain many errors (550). I'll reupload the part 2 and 3 as soon as I can.

Hey, here again. The new uploads worked , but now there is something new .

    1. None, none of them work. I get this same error when I try to select any campaign.

    2. Whatever I select from the batch file, the same thing happens. The batch lists a bunch of files it could not copy, but gives no reason. Then says access denied many times, then the game loads, the loading screen shows for about 5 seconds, and then CTD with an "unspecified error" crap.

    3. Again, this happens whenever I select any option from the batch file.

    4. No error log was given by the game, but here is a small piece of the batch file when it tries to load:

Unable to create directory-C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II total war\mods\conquest\data\unit_models\attachmentsets

The problem is that Xcopy (used to copy files) doesn't work the same way in Vista as it does in XP. Attached is a version of the bat file that used Robocopy, which replaces Xcopy in Vista. I'm unsure how well it will work as I don't have Vista so I can't test it. Let me know if it works.

To install this download and unpack the Conquest VISTA.rar, unpack it, and put the Conquest VISTA.bat in your C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War folder. Double click on it, rather than the Conquest.bat.

This problem is caused because you don't have the 'shared.sd' and 'strategy.sd' in your vanilla data folder. Attacked is the ui.rar file. You need to upack it and put the ui folder in you vanilla data folder (default location 'C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\data').

    1) None of the Campaigns will load past the initial splash screen.
    2) The .bat file starts saying 'X files copied' and then starts showing up a long list of files missing - first to do with certain nations, then to do with missing textures. The game then loads to the splash screen before crashing.
    3) I was trying to run the game.
    4) Error log attached:

I downloaded this on either (stupid memory!) the 30th or 31st - I think it was the latter, so might well have been affected by the corruption stated above. I am hesitant about going and downloading again straight away...download limits and all that!

    Thanks, but no dice.

The error message is totally different in the batch file, but it still does the loading screen followed by CTD and that "unspecified error" message.

The batch file lists the error many times, this is what it says now:

Sorry, I did follow the install procedure but the shared files keep getting overwritten in the 'vanilla' ui folder by the default files so the same errors continue to occur. Anything else I can do?

According to your error log you seem to have a problem with your battle_models.modeldb. I've uploaded a copy of it to this post. To install it download the 'battle_models.rar', unpack it, and put the 'battle_models.modeldb' in your 'mods\conquest\data\unit_models' folder (default location ('C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\conquest\data\unit_models'). This should overwrite the existing file.

The robocopy and xcopy copy files from one folder (directory) into another to change which files this mod uses. After the copy command that tells the computer which files to copy there are command that tell it what to do with the file. '/r' is to overwrite the existing file with this file. Unfortunately these xcopy and robocopy use differ syntaxes (such as /r) so it's not easy to switch between them.

Can you get the mod to load if you type '0' (zero) and then press 'enter' key? 0 loads the mod without copying files, so you should be able to play the 1546 campaign.

Xagamon's problem is that he can't copy files, not that it loads then crashes. Can you post and error log.

As long as the shared files are in the vanilla ui folder and this mod's ui folder the error I'm thinking of shouldn't occur. Can you upload a screenshot of this error.

Can you get the mod to load if you type '0' (zero) and then press 'enter' key? 0 loads the mod without copying files, so you should be able to play the 1546 campaign.
Nope, the only difference is that there are no error messages in the batch file. No messages appear at all when I use 0. But it is still the CTD.

If you dont have Vista (and I strongly recommend NEVER getting it) I guess there is not much else you can do...

I will try to see what I can do with Robocopy, but I dont have my hopes up. So far, anything related to Vista has caused me nothing but grief.

Oh well, Im sure this mod is amazing! Maybe I'll have better luck in the future when you release version, uh... 2.5! That comes with an easy launcher!

Thanks anyway. I'll update if something good happens.

    Hi uanime5,
The folder unit_models does not exist in my install - could this be because of the corruption in the download? Creating it and putting that file in still throws up errors, but it now gets past the initial splash screen and will get as far as selecting 'grand campaign', at which point it asks me to select an item from the list when I click upon the Grand Campaign. Starting a quick battle crashes the game.

Most likely because you inadvertantly had two chracters close to each other that create a smily face. For example : and p create :p

It seems that robocopy isn't working for you either.

It's odd that the mod still crashes even if you hit 0 because no files have been copied. Are you sure an error log isn't generated.

If you want to try to work with robocopy you'll need to replace the '/r /y /q' part. /r means overwrite the exisitng file, /y means overwrite the existing file even if it's read only, and /q means don't show me what files you're processing.

I'd make an easy installer if I knew how (no tutorials on this). Unfortunately I haven't found a program that lets you create an exe file that moves files to the right folder and creates a desktop short cut that's smaller than one megabyte. Most exe files try to absorb the entire mod, which leaves me with a file twice the size of a 7z file.

Did you unpack the whole mod? You have to select all the folders and unpack them; just unpacking the first folder only unpacks the first folder.

I realised this last night and am now kicking myself still! All no working with the exception of the 1080 campaign, which throws up an 'unexpected error' and quits upon loading the actual campaign. Here's the errorlog...

Uanime5 - Here is a screenshot of the graphics error I keep getting each time I start a campaign. I hope this helps you solve the mystery glitch. Thanks.

BTW - the over all picture quality is not an issue. That's just a result of the format I saved the "print screen" shot in.

Venice faction leader dies instantly and faction is destroyed in 1500 campaign. This happens even if I lower the age of the faction leader and heir. How can I fix it please?
