Thread: The Fury of the Desert Wind - A Saba AAR

I have played quite a bit more and will post again as time becomes available. Turning off the fog of war strikes terror into my heart as the Seleucid Empire is doing better than I have ever seen it do before. They have held all their eastern posessions, taken all the Ptolemaic territories outside Egypt, and are beating back Pontus and Armenia.... It will be a hard war. I recently fought one of their 1/2 stacks, and my camel archers and jav cav sucked against their highly armored units.... Also interesting, the Greeks are beating the Macs (I've never seen that before, and the Indie Gauls are doing fabulously (they have killed off the Guals and have kicked the Indie Greeks out of "France").

Why'd you go to war with them? I would've conquered East Africa and Egypt first... Or are you that far ahead?

And I find even if TSE does well initially in the east Parthia and Baktria get them eventually. They just need time to take all the rebel cities around them.

=o Nice AAR! It's been a while since I was so gripped by an AAR. It's a pity that the unit sizes are so low, but the quality of the writing more than enough compensates for that. Do continue writing.

    Quirinal,

Thank you for your kind words. I plan to write more soon, it is just a matter of finding time. At this point in my campaign the Seleucids have turned into quite the juggernaught. I am holding them off in eastern Arabia just south of Charax/Seleucia. I have conquered the Eastern Kingdoms lands in Africa. I don't want to invade the Ptolemies as they are already on the losing side of a war with the Seleucids and provide a nice buffer. I think I am going to retrain my army and take the EK holdings in Petra/Sinai/Palmyra. At that point I will have an Eastern Civilized springboard to hit Antioch. Simultaneously I will go on the offensive with my army in east Arabia, taking Seleucia. This will essentially cut the Seleucid's empire in half and deprive them of their two most important cities. Hard to do on VH though, serious casualties....

Time is now of the essence. An attempt has been made on my brother's life, and all fingers point toward me. I capture Ubar with lightning speed, and swiftly move ahead, hell bent on reaching Omana before Hannad can stop me. I push my men to the breaking point, but Hannad has the advantage of the sea, and he heads me off before I can reach my goal.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

As I go by land, Hannad takes the longer yet faster sea route.

I am days away from Omana when I receive news that my brother is ahead of me, I will not reach my goal in time.

Before the Crown Prince can intercept me and my army I muster my men and address them: "By nightfall the Crown Prince will be in our camp. He comes to stop our advance, and to depose me of the right to lead you to further glories. He does this because he is a coward and seeks to remain hidden away from the world! He does this because he is jealous of our success! He does this because he is jealous of me - that his younger brother could better lead the great people of Saba to glory makes his blood boil! When he comes to our camp tonight, he will seek to send me back to Mariaba. To send me back to Mariaba in chains! I ask you, my brave and loyal men, do I deserve this treatment?"

A momentary pause. The men are quiet. The horses quit stamping, quit neighing. The wind falls silent and the relentless sun stops in its path for a moment. The world seems to stand totally still, and I fear that the men who have grown to love me, and I them, will side with Hannad and uphold the status quo. Our people will melt back into the sand and I will be sent into exile for disobeying short sighted orders.

Suddenly a great roar breaks out in unison. The army chants my name: "Far'am! Far'am! Long live Far'am!" I breath again, a smile passes over my face as I raise my sword in the air. Silence falls once again, and I yell out to my men, my army, "Long live Saba!" The roars that follow are deafening.

As my scouts report Hannad's approach I ride out to meet him. The smile and hearty greeting I give to him clearly take him by surprise. "You must be weary older brother, come to camp with me, and we will get you off your horse." Upon riding into camp it is clear that celebrations are under way. Perplexed, Crown Prince Hannad looks to me for answers, answers I am only too happy to provide him with. "Why such mirth? Don't you and your men know my business here?" he asks. "Ah, yes, my men are celebrating the good news. You see, the army has decided that I shall follow our father on the throne of Saba, and not you."

Infuriated, the newly disinherited Hannad draws his sword and lunges toward me. My guards are too fast, he his hurled to the ground. "Far'am! You dirty bastard, son of a concubine, I will never allow you to take my throne" he screams. "I thought not, but I have planned ahead. You are to be exiled to Opone. You shall never be allowed to raise a proper army. You and your heirs are never to set foot in Arabia again, on pain of death. I have already bribed your captain, and set a group of my most trusted me to escort you there. You should be thankful I don't execute you. Just watch out for pirates this time" I say with a grim smile.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

After my impassioned speech my men demand that I shall be the next king of Saba. With the army under my control, there is little anyone can do to stop me, even my father the king.

Hannad outpaces my army, and joins our camp.

Our fateful meeting is at an end, and Hannad is sent into exile. I doubt our paths will ever cross again in this life.

Hopefully you will continue Achilles, it would be a shame to let your AAR die

For anyone interested, I will continue my AAR, I am just taking a bit of a breather. I have hit a hard spot vs Seleucia, so I will have to pull out all the stops to actually win!

Welp. I've been lurking for a few weeks. Finally decided to make an account to wish you luck. Saba was the first faction I tried using and I just couldn't handle the Seleukids.
