Thread: Possibile effect of N:TW?

    Default Possibile effect of N:TW?

With the announcement that Napoleon TW will use the engine Empire was built on, i began to think.
C.A normally use the same engine twice. They then start with a new one. This could have a major knock-on effect:

1.) The next TW game (R2:TW we all hope) may use a new engine. Will we have another Empire on our hands? (buggy release, general teething problems)

2.) If they are biuilding a new engine, they must be well into the early developement stage of the next game. Are our suggestions going to have an impact (As far as I know the idea of R2:TW wasnt all that big before Empire was released)

Personally I think they could use Empire's engine again. Its obviously got the potential, it just needs a patient project that isnt rushed.

    What you guys think?

I agree it (the engine) just needs polish. I suspect they'll use it for a while. Development cost and time is rising with complexity, plus this one is pretty state-of-the-art. Some work on optimizing animation processing to minimize resource usage (hence allowing more characters) is about the only core system to work on, and that's an incrememtal improvement.

I think it's pretty unlikely they will not use this engine for a while, not unless they move total war into the modern era. This one will work perfectly fine up until around 1870 at which point armies begin to fight in a more "irregular" fashion.

Well if history repeats its self TW games come in pairs, with regards to the same engine. RTW and M2TW then ETW and NTW so I wouldn't be surprised if the next game had a new engine and the fact that the first game is the "beta" I wouldn't be surprised if they picked a new era to add to the novelty of the game, my bet is Ancient TW (Egypt, Ancient Greece, and so on) that way they can add Rome in as a Stand alone?

Unless CA is completely mad, they will do a 19th century TW, which would require little change.

Guys they are using the empire engine, and the system requirements are also the same, but as far i read they improve it quite alot, for instance no more clone troops, they improve architecture of the buildings aswell, amoung other things im pretty sure. at least acording to eurogamer, and aparently they focus on roleplay campaings as similar of the empire. Im not sure i like that for instance.
Still Im hoping they will release a game with less bugs of the empire, at least the core bugs.
Eitherway i will just wait and see, i wont buy it right away thats for sure.

may be they will try to please the Americans with a Victorian era game. throw in the ACW. as much as i would love to see such game, but R2:TW would make much more sense. who knows. no body was expecting NTW to be a stand alone game.

there is no reason to make a new engine, they will most likely use the ETW one.
