    Default Reformed Fortress Sieges...

I have a question, will NTW change the fortress siege engine from Empire... I mean, currently there is only 2 ways to enter a fort...

    1. Have your Line-Infantry scale the walls on rope... (CHEASY!!! Apperently average joe had the phisical fitness of a Green Beret )

    2. Wall? What wall? I'LL JUST LAY WASTE TO IT WITH MY ARTILLERY !!!

Here are some solutions for more realistic sieges...
I mean what ever happened to siege ladders? I'm pretty sure they were still around during this era. A fort was no good if you destroyed the walls...

    Or....

Put your Engineers (Sappers) to work! Either equipe them with explosives that will be seen ingame. OR make an option when you first besiege a fort (If you have Sappers) to "Initiate Sapping". After another turn is up, you start the battle and...... Vuala, you start the battle with a small breach already in the wall ! Sapping time will be increase depending on the amount of engineers you have, the size of the wall, the garrison inside (Historically some of the most gruesome fighting at the time took place during sapping)....

So what do you think ?
    RTR RULES!!!!

They better change sieges, unfortunately what you are saying has been proposed tens if not hundreds if not hundreds of thousands of times, so it is up to CA now. Sorry I don't rep when people ask for it lol. Good ideas though, and I hope they implement something different than special forces BAMF infantry who scale walls like they are a childs playground.

They definitely need to add advantages to defenders though, taking a fort is way too easy in Empire. I want to lose an army taking a fort!

I like the sapping idea.... However instead starting with a whole it the wall you should start the battle with trenches and emplaced artillery.

For one they should make breaches look more like an actual breach lol. And you should be able to set up mines in the breach etc lol so forlorn hopes would do their job lol.
Just needed a new signature lol. Any suggestions?

Fort battles with trenches that have to zig zag to get close enough to bombard the fort. Last Of The Mohicans anyone?

CA had plans for E:TW to make bombs that can destroy fortess gates. It never got implented (lack of time) and I hope it does get implented in N:TW.

Scaling ladders should replace grappling hooks/rope.

Mines / sapping should be reintroduced.

perhaps they can mod RTW for NTW?

well maybe some of the cannons should be permanently inserted in the fort? And i would like not only the ability to sap but also to countersap.

you could get it just like getting a seige tower, spend a turn building it. However, it was unstoppable and it took only a few seconds to get the walls down

Just give me ladders! They were used at the Siege of Badajoz for instance.
They were in E:TW because the military advisor said something like: "To deploy your LADDERS move up close to the wall and right click it."

Barrels of gunpowder deployed by Pioneers (Sappers or Engineers w/e) would also be handy to blow walls and gates. And hey if you need to protect a choke point you could plant some of those there and just wait 'til the cavalry charges you

Give me the possibility of placing my own cannons on the walls.

I think they should also make a difference between sieging a fort and a city.
The city should be much bigger...

good point Nicolaos yes forts should remain the way the cities were if the had settlement defenses i think but cities should have a vastly different layout still not sure what yet.

ETW's forts were a disaster, not only the ways of breaching should be altered, but the models of the forts should be improved too. It was all repetitive and they all looked so small.

wasnt that the generic fort of the time? I highly doubt the forts would be as elaborate as the castles in the medieval era.

Forts in Empire are absolutely dreadful. Forts in C18th were amazingly diverse both in general structure and in defense mechanisms. To simply storm a star fort with ladders or worse, ropes is simply ridiculous.

Furthermore, these forts were designed to take an enormous beating from cannon fire without sustaining damage. I would suggest that the walls should be indestructible within the space of a battle, but they should take damage according to how long you besiege them and with how many artillery pieces. This would avoid the brain numbing "wait for walls to fall down" at the start of every siege and simulate the idea that in reality, fortress walls were brought down over months, not hours.

Obviously, ME2's ladder system was far superior to E:TW's ropes and it would be nice to see it return, as long as the fools climbing up are as doomed as they would have been in reality. Men should be forced through the labyrinthine series of deathtraps present in fortresses of the day if they actually want to get in without laying siege for long enough to make entrypoints elsewhere. Of course, none of this would be particularly applicable to the vast majority of the ancient forts still in use, which should be cannonmeat, but I strongly object to having such simple and easily taken star forts in any game without nuclear weapons and space lasers.

I want to see some historical sieges with some epic star forts etc. The ones we see look okay but I want to see some famous and/or sweet looking star forts. Something like this would do the job

the design was similar but there were many variations and forts that built on those ideas. Check out the Sharpe's series for some awesome forts.

Is that the remnant of a star fort?
