Thread: Claiming other Kingdoms

    Default Claiming other Kingdoms

Sorry if this has already been answered but i was reading the stuff about the massive amounts of traits and couldn't help but think "What if when you had a character of your own blood (of english blood for example) and one from another country (of frankish blood?) and that once the other country's faction leader died you could get the possibility of making a claim to their crown? (hundred year war anyone?) always wanted to steal another persons country from them

No, it's a good question mate.
We had thought about this a lot in the very beginning, I think it may have been one of the drives to make the mod in fact. Ironically enough with the massive amounts of work we have undertaken, this has got pushed to the back so much that we haven't looked at it.
Certainly our complex use of traits and our reliance on them may allow us to do something pretty much along those lines. It also reminds me of Azim's Civil War script, but that is for causing rebellions or changes within a faction. I am not sure how we would do this, but it is a great idea. I will definitely run it by Azim when he gets back from holiday.
Another related script might be another idea we have had since the mod began, how to get factions to unify when royals of different families intermarry. Perhaps, when two factions marry, a dowry of land needs to be given. This could represent a dynastic union, and autonomies like Counties changing hands between factions.
We will look into this and get back to you with some of our ideas soon.

Perhaps by making each monarch get a retinue upon ascension to the throne.. Crown of England for example.. and then if they die heirless someone from a different faction could inherit the throne (which really just gives them the retinue and the lands) if they have a legitimate claim.. perhaps could be used with the same trait system that is in dHRR.. Also if two different people inherit the throne would it be possible to make a nation.. say France re-emerge with the person who inherited the throne as King? For example.. King Henry of England and France has two sons.. Robert and Henry II, Henry Inherits the throne of England while Robert inherits the throne of France.. Is it even possible to start a nation with a member of another family tree as the monarch?

    Unfortunately not-
for instance if you were to sail down the western coast of Africa to the edge of our map you might get a message saying that you have found a route around the Cape of Good Hope, and some turns later a set army and navy would spawn off the coast of Aden, but we cannot make it be the same forces and your original forces that triggered the spawn would be lost.

So if you sent one unit down there, you could end up with a huge army coming out the other side?
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."

It is impossible to hardwire a mechanism, but we can simulate it (if tests work out) using our unique bloodlines feature. This will allow factions to transition into other factions, sometimes inheriting them. For example, if the Fatimids fulfill certain conditions and have a Syrian come to the throne, they will merge with the Syria faction, becoming the Ayyubids.

A similar mechanism is planned for the intermarried dynasties of Europe, I guess?

No, this will work only for transitions unless it works out very well. I specialise in Islam so i cannot bring any examples of whether we have any such bloodline transitions for the Euro factions.

You are very welcome. How much more civilised the DotS forum is than the other mod forums.

I was looking at a thread in the SS forum: "How much (alcohol) do you usually drink when playing Stainless Steel"

    and yet here

"please sir, will you include transitions"

    "Aye, laddie"

"Thank you ever so much sir"

    "Och aye, laddie"

Keep up the civilness and we might even show you some updated map screenies .
