Ever hated that all those famous cities, build on banks of the famous rivers are put on the campaign map next to them? Ever argued on which bank to put them? Or you just hate the fact that huge army can march around the city over the river without problems? This might be solution for you :-)
1) Overlay the map_regions and map_features in your favourite graphical program supporting layers (like Gimp) or use Geomod
2) Put the settlement dot on the river, but you must follow these rules:
- never put it to bend
- always put it on straight section
- good place is virtually anywhere you can place ford to
Reason is simple. If you put it on any other then straight section, the map will not load and could CTD, KTM and log will say nothing.
3) Put ford underneath the city on the river. This is very important, because otherwise roads don't work.
4) Try to load the map!
Altough it works most of the time, at places it might not. Log is not helpful so you must try to give it on sole land again and see if it was the problem. If it was, try to change the river a bit to suit this intention. If it loads fine, you will see in log a message saying it's in unreachable spot, but will be ingnored (which is correct).
Remember, that settlement can be placed everywhere with straight piece of river even in U turns or next to bends. But it at times simply does not work for no apparent reason. In that case try slightly changing the river.
NOTE: Owner of the settlement and his allies can pass by it fine. Enemies and agents cannot. Bare this in mind when using this feature.

For now observe this:
