Thread: Adding own music to the mod

Default Adding own music to the mod

    Hi!

I downloaded Eras - Total Conquest yesterday and I'm thoroughly impressed - by all the little details, each of the campaigns and factions. However, I want to add some more immersion by adding for example music form Medieval 1 or Shogun (especially for far eastern factions). Do you know how can I do it without harming the mod? I know how to add own music to other mods via the tutorial in the Workshop, but I'm not sure if it does also apply to Eras. Could you help me?

    Regards.

I haven't tried adding music so I'm not sure whether this is possible. Different campaigns use different versions of the events, music, voices, and sfx files; so if you need to edit any of these files you'll need to edit the version in the 'data/sound_files' or when you change campaign you'll lose the new versions.

In fact you were adding music to the vanilla version when you added music for the Asian factions. Under this theory I have tried (and I see that other participants on this forum interested in adding music have too) adding music files (mp3) to the conquest/data/sounds/music folder and editing the descr_sounds_music.txt on conquest/data/sound_files/base, but that's not enough because the sound files for the different campaigns overwrite the sound files in the conquest/data/sound folder, adding those sounds to the vanilla ones.

How are mechanics for the sound files work? Is it possible to edit or influence the sound files in the campaign folders? I have been able to find the formula to edit/add music but that erases all other sounds (effects, voices, events) and I'd like to keep them exactly the same.

I'd recommend checking out this thread for an explanation of the sound files in this mod:
