    Default James Cameron's Avatar

    The Movie:
For those who don't know for the past 4 years James Cameron has been working on his new film called Avatar. At first I thought it was based on the Nickelodeon TV series (which there is already a live action movie coming out for it), but that is actually incorrect. Here is what the idea of the movie is about,

Avatar is set during the 22nd century on a small moon called Pandora, which orbits a gas giant, and is inhabited by the tribal Na'vi, ten foot blue humanoids that are peaceful unless attacked. Humans cannot breathe Pandoran air, so they genetically engineer human/Na'vi hybrids known as Avatars that can be controlled via a mental link. A paralyzed Marine named Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) volunteers to exist as an Avatar on Pandora, falling in love with a Na'vi princess and becoming caught up in the conflict between her people and the human military that is consuming their world.
Fifteen minutes of footage will be released in theaters on Aug 25. Considering the quality of his films and that Cameron has invested over 200 million in Avatar this could actually turn out to be a good movie. Avatar will be released this Holiday season.

    The Game:
Yes there is yet another movie game coming out this year. But this difference with this one is that for once a movie game is being made by a big (mostly not crappy) publisher. Ubesoft is working on the game and has been developing it for most of the 4 years of movie filming. More details for the game are provided in the interview with James Cameron in the link below.

Hmm, sounds like it can make a good sci-fi film.

200 million is a lot of money for a movie that everyone has either never heard of or forgotten about, like myself.

4 years? It's been that long? He must have had a lot of hookers and cocaine on the set...or developed narcolepsy...

Katsuhiro Otomo spent ten years making the movie Steamboy.

    Wiki
With an initial production cost of US$26,000,000, Steamboy is the most expensive full length Japanese animated movie made to date.[1] Additionally, the film was in production for ten years and utilized more than 180,000 drawings and 440 CG cuts

My I add I think the work was well worth it, its visually amazing to watch. At one point I think they had nearly 2000 sound elements in a single scene alone if I remember an interview right. Japanese are such profectionist, they do make some amazing movies, but they don't make it far out of Japan because people don't care useless unless they are from Japan, or just a fan of Japanese film. Out of all the ones Roger Ebert Reviewed I think I can only name one that didn't get a 4 star or higher.

Most do, unless they come from Japan. The Mighty Gods of Scifi!! Sometimes they got a bit too crazy though.

Love Code Geass' ending. Nannually is crying over her dead brother in a way it literally hurt's the viewer's soul, and everyone else around are cheering HURRAH HURRAH ZERO ZERO ZERO all happy like because he is dead. None of them know what he actually did for them all, he made himself out to the world as the most evil man in the world but actually saved the world by destroying the corrupt nations/monarchies which caused endless wars for decades.

Steamboy was awesome, although normally Japanese sci-fi is at least as stupid and crappy as Western sci-fi.

I am hoping that if the concept for the movie turns out to be good then hopefully the game might break the movie game curse. Because the only other movie game this year is G.I joe and that is defiantly not going to break the curse.

At E3 James Cameron talked about the film for about twenty minutes. You can probably still see it if you dig up the ubisoft press conference. After that talk I was kinda excited. Then I saw the video game and its screenshots. What I saw seem INCREDIBLY generic and when coupled with what Cameron had said at E3 I lost most interest in the movie. I'm fully prepared for this to be one of the biggest disappointments in film history. That opinion may change once we see some actual footage from the movie.

    No. It wont.

Dont ever expect any game movie to be good. They are all mass market games by idiotic publishers who ONLY want to cash in on a movies popularity with a minimum investment. If the game has EA, Ubisoft, Atari, Activision, Sega, etc on the box and its a movie game expect it to be bad. They have absolutely no intention in making such games good, its not the purpose of that product.

Code Geass was a terrible anime. I watched half the series. Japan is not the god of Sci Fi.

I agree, I am just hoping not expecting. I am going to wait until I see some reviews before I even think about buying a movie game. Also I remember reading somewhere that the game is going to be in 3-D, as in you need glasses to play it. Odd, doubt it will happen.
