I want to see Matt Berry as Thorin, and I want him to do the signature thumb/index finger point and say "Now you listen!" At several intervals throughout the film. I could die happy if that happened.
"Ghlaoigh tú anuas ar an Toirneach, agus anois bain an Chuaifeach."
Muffer, he made a new thread, I merged it with this one so technically I was the one who necroed it.
"Peter Jackson Reveals Which 'LOTR' Stars Will Return For 'The Hobbit'"
Now I'm little worried, because Jackson doesn't say anything about Andy Serkis as Gollum or Christopher Lee as Saruman.(In case they decide to include White Council part) Writer even says this:
"Now, Jackson is hard at work prepping a return to Middle-earth with "The Hobbit" and has revealed to us that three — and only three — of the "Rings" actors will be returning for the family reunion."
And those actors would be Ian McKellan as Gandalf, Hugo Weaving as Elrond and possibly Cate Blanchett as Galadriel. Where is Gollum and where is Saruman? If Galadriel will "possibly" be in it then why isn't Saruman a possibility? Would they do White Council without Saruman or even worse, try to replace Christopher Lee with another actor?
I really hope this to be just simple misunderstanding on writer's behalf, but at least it's good news that they are not trying to bring back whole cast of LOTR to make appearance on screen. (Not that I ever believed those rumors anyway)

EDIT: Oh, and if somebody didn't already know producers have begun casting of the films this week so maybe we are getting some news soon. I just hope they don't listen to "us" and pick James McAvoy as Bilbo. That would be horrible. (Not that I ever believed those rumors either) An unknown actor doesn't sound bad idea. They usually turn out to be the best choices.

We have developed speed but we have shut ourselves in: machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical, our cleverness hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little: More than machinery we need humanity; More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost.

That would be the worst thing ever.try to replace Christopher Lee with another actor?
And it is impossible. Nobody cant be better Saruman than Cristopher Lee. Sorry, I mean Sir Cristopher Lee
Then the movie would have two knighted actor: Mckellen and Lee.
Agreed. An unknown actor doesn't sound bad idea. They usually turn out to be the best choices.![]()
Or what if they would make Brad Pitt as Bilbo!
It would be typical Hollywood.

Last I heard, Christopher Lee put out a statement saying that he'd love to be a part of the movie but he simply cannot make the trip or physical demands as his age does not permit it (he's 87 years old you know..). It'd be dreadful to see someone else as Saruman, but that's the reality of it. There will be another actor for him unless they do some crazy digital work like in Star Wars or something.
Is there any finalized/official word that "The Hobbit" will be the first movie and the "bridge" to the trilogy will be the second or will "The Hobbit" story be all two movies?

IMO it would be best to leave White Council out if there really is no way Lee could play Saruman. There have been suggestions that maybe the part could be shot in England, but I very much doubt they would put so much effort to get just couple more scenes in the movie. After all they would have to get cameras, find studio, build set and get all other props and actors all the way from New Zealand to England just do this one scene. It would be great fan service, but even they have to draw line somewhere.![]()

I've read The Hobbit and I'm sure Saruman's not in it so why would he be in The Hobbit, but only read it once so might be wrong
Voice of Smaug=MORGAN FREEMAN
YES!!!!!
He was member of the White Council where Gandalf went at one point in book. What happened there was not described (There might have been small clue it was about driving Sauron out of Mirkwood, if I remember right), but Jackson and Del Toro have been talking they may write that part in movie and then Saruman should of course be included.

If whoever is making the 'untold stories' part of the hobbit, then they should just go ahead and make a movie off 'The New Shadow'. (Play the RTW mod Fourth Age) Then they can make up events and facts all they want.
"Oh no! Uzbeks have drunk my battery fluid!"
There has been talk they are filming some of 'The hobbit' in Australia, it is very close to New Zealand, about 3 hours flight
