I like pie.
I blame Stalin.
I'm of the opinion that WWII could not have been completely avoided...
But, it could have happened in a way that would have probably avoided as much bloodshed and genocide as what happened historically..
I'm suprised this hasn't been brought up yet, but if the Western Powers had invened in the Spanish Civil War and fought on the side of the Spanish Republicans, it would have been a huge blow to both Hitler and Mussolini. Both wanted to avoid entangling Britain, France, and the US in a conflict where they could have been badly defeated with minimal effort.
I just read an excellent survey by Paul Preston that touches on this subject.

"The fact is that every war suffers a kind of progressive degradation with every month that it continues, because such things as individual liberty and a truthful press are not compatible with military efficency."
-George Orwell, in Homage to Catalonia, 1938.
Im sure this has been said but if the Allies had slapped Hitler from the get go and not followed the policy of appeasement. WWII would have, at the very least been postponed. Prevented? Maybe.

If the allies had not been so cruel to defeated Germany in WW1 then WW2 would not have happened. It was the revenge filled acts by the victors in WW1 that caused the second world war
.
“When my information changes, I alter my conclusions.” ― John Maynard Keynes
That's often repeated but far too simple and not entirely true.
The Germans were treated less harshly by Versailles than the treaty they imposed upon the Russians at Brest-Litovsk.
It also pretends, naively, that a stronger German state would not have sought revenge against mainly the French, were they treated less harshly.
Most of all it dosen't place the blame on the psychopath that took control of Germany, in a time of turmoil and upheaval all over Europe in a manner never seen before. There were revolutions even in Paris and London, nevermind the successful revolution in former allied power, Italy and later ascension to power of Franco in Spain
It's just not sufficient to place the blame on the allied powers (Especially since you could argue they acted reasonably, trying to break up Germany so they could not start another disastrous war. Hindsight is 20/20)
