Hello there, it's been a while since I did a thread and I was listening to some Bond theme songs after using them to mock a fellow twc member (in a friendly way). Which is the best theme/song?
Mull it over with a dry Martini- shaken, not stirred.
007 Theme (Dr.No with slight calypso theme at the end)
Moby's version
The only true Bond theme we need ever need?
From Russia with love
I'm not a fan. Matt Monroe was a fine singer, but it's too lounge singer and lacks edge. Too sentimental. And he's a guy so fail in my opinion.
Goldfinger
A contender for best song, shirley! Okay that was a bad joke. Great lyrics, fitting tune and suitably stirring.
Thunderball
Dionne Warwick's 'Kiss kiss bang bang' version. Not used in the theatre original. I think it suits the title quite nicely and is quite sassy and sexy. Replaced by Tom Jones (below).
Tom Jones version. Big, bombastic and er.. Jonesian. Yes, it's guy singer but it's Tom Jones. Tom Jones. Not bad at all in my opinion.
You only live twice

Nancy Sinatra. Surely a contender for best theme- catchy, thoughtful and almost nihilistic. Very Bond.
Julie Roger's version.
On her majesty's secret service
An action theme basically and is fairly solid and suitable. As for Lazenby...
Secondary theme
A secondary musical score by Loius Armstrong during a montage scene. A great song for summing up Bond's only love.
Diamonds are for forever
Shirley Bassey doing her thing again. One of the best in my opinion- memorable, smooth yet big. Apparently Harry Saltzman didn't like the song at all it only got in at the insistence of Cubby Broccoli.
Live and let die
Okay, I like the song but I don't know about it as a Bond theme. I dislike the chance of pace at 1:16 it's too Beatlesy. A bit of a silly Bond movie as well, really.
The Man with the Golden Gun
I don't like the lyrics or the intro but it certainly is catchy, so I'll let Lulu off. Apparently Alice Cooper did a version but it was not used.
The Spy who loved me
Pfft. Not what I want in a Bond film. Too smultzy. I don't think Carly Simon was the best choice.
Moonraker
Shirley does it again. A contender in my eyes.
For your eyes only
Sheena Easton. One of few to give Shirley a run for her money.
Never say never again
The 'unofficial' Bond' starring an old man with a toupee. Some guy stole the world supply of viagra or something. The song makes me sleepy. so very sleepy.
Octopussy
Meh. Good lyrics thanks to Tim Rice but the voice of Rita Coolidge doesn't lift it. Forgettable. Pulp did a version for the Shaken and Stirred album but I can't find it.
A view to a kill
Oh Duran Duran! What guilty pleasure you give me! Catchy, energetic and fitting to Bond's charactor. One of the best in my opinion. Apparently the idea of Duran Duran doing the song came when the bassist John Taylor said to Cubby Broccoli at a party "When are you going to get someone decent to do one of your theme songs?"
The Living Daylights
A-Ha. Quite fitted the new ending of the cold war Bond. Dynamic enough but I just feel it lacks something. Underated Bond by the way, it had many good elements *cough* Maryam D'abo *cough*
Secondary theme by The Pretenders.
I think it would have made a good opening theme as it is. Perhaps not big enough for a introduction to a new Bond.
Third theme by the Pretenders.
Another theme for the very well-scored The Living Daylights. Maybe a bit sappy had it been the main theme.
A license to kill
As a random youtube comment guy said- it has power and soul, but it is by Gladys Knight. Unfortunatly Dalton had lost interest in being Bond.
There is also a end credit tune by Patti Labelle but I don't think it's up to much.
Goldeneye
How do you replace shirley Bassey? Get an American Shirley Bassey! Fair play to Tina the francise was being rebooted and this was what was needed- grand, sexy and fitting to the material.
Tommorow never dies
Sheryl Crow. I think she captured the mood rather well with a rather smokey noir tinge. One of the last good ones in my opinion.
Closing credits theme
By KD Lang. A contender for the main song, actually, and a good one at that.
The World in not enough
Garbage. Thankfully the performers not the song. Not bad, I'll leave it at that.
Die another Day
I heard a rumour(don't know if it's true) that when they were deciding on what artist to use for the song and old woman broke into the studio and threatened to burn the joint down if they didn't choose her. To hell with you madonna this song sucks and is not appropriate for a Bond movie- it's repetitive and poppey. Crap. The movie was rubbish anyway.
Casino Royale
Not bad but I don't know what to think to be honest. Does it work or not? Answers on a postcard.
Quantum of solace
I admit I haven't seen this film but going by the theme song Bond is about to go undercover as one half of a brother and sister act on Pop idol.
Honourable mention-
The Space March
