Thread: Corinthian Hypaspists?

    Default Corinthian Hypaspists?

    Hey, relatively new here.

I recently downloaded the XG mod and went to the custom battle unit selection for greece and noticed that there weren't any corinthian hypaspists (which i noticed in an xgm screen shot).

Im guessing that they got removed so my questions are
    1) why were they removed?
    and
    2) what version are they in?

    (I have version 5.9.20)

Personally I think they look more like hoplites rather than hypaspists.

They were converted into the Sacred Band, a hoplite unit.

Hypaspists technically were hoplites. Or at least, that's the general assumption.

There are many theories about the use and the nature of the Hypaspists.
I presonally prefer the one that says they were the commandos of the era.

I do not know if the whole matter has to do with historical accuracy or merging units for another slot but:
Only Macedonians used this name "Hypaspistae"[gr: Υπασπισται] for their fully proffesional unit.
In South Greece the most comon term for those often 300 proffesional troops was Logades [gr: Λογάδες]. In Theba the name was Secret Band [gr:Ιερος Λόχος] and in Sparta was Ippeis [Ιππείς] which means horsemen but they had no horses atall in a paradox way about their name.
300 was the most common number of proffesional hoplites.
What we must remember is that hoplites was citizens and there for "militias" in each city's army. Each city had a "company" of fully war oblicated men to keep a minimum defence and domestic order plus to protect the administrators no matter if they were kings (Sparta,Macedon)or politicians...
Each such unit had ussualy the same patern or part of the same patern on their shields to be easily separated from the rest of hoplites.
The word Hypaspist has similar meaning with hoplite.
Hypaspist means the one that is under -the protection of- a shield and hoplite means the one that uses the hoplon shield.
Macedon Hypaspists were NOT lightly armored as many believe but they were the only real hoplites in the Macedonian kingdom because before
Phillip the kingdom could not afford more hoplites.
As real proffesionals they could use all known tactics and weapons according to the task in battlefield they had to accomplish.
The missunderstanding started when Alexander used them (as his most trusted and ellite troops) to do some "commando" operations and they left
their armors behind because their war experty could make the lack of protection lesser factor.
EDIT: Athenian Logades were hoplites that had also the knowlege of ussing a bow...
They act like hoplite archers in the early of the battle of Plateae when they helped other hoplites to defend a narrow path.

TGC in order to continue its development seak one or more desicated scripters to put our campaign scripts mess to an order plus to create new events and create the finall missing factions recruitment system. In return TGC will give permision to those that will help to use its material stepe by step. The result will be a fully released TGC plus many mods that will benefit TGC's material.
Despite the mod is dead does not mean that anyone can use its material
    read this to avoid misunderstandings.

IWTE tool master and world txt one like this, needed inorder to release TGC 1.0 official to help TWC to survive.
Adding MARKA HORSES in your mod and create new varietions of them. Tutorial RESTORED.
