Definitely put a few of them up. I'm interested in castles from the medieval and post gunpower eras (the ones that look like 5 pointed stars.

i escpecially like the dungeon with the "oubliet" (french for to forget) that was basically a human shaped cage that they put people in and just forgot about them

I live about 3 minutes away from Castle Rising in Norfolk.

For those who dont know of it :

The magnificent keep at Castle Rising was built in c1140 by William d'Albini II to celebrate his marriage to the widow of Henry I and his acquisition of the earldom of Sussex and was modeled on the keep at Norwich, built by Henry I. At its building it was the largest in the country and was later particularly noted for its highly decorated forebuilding and its staircase approach, which even today is still in pretty good condition.

The castle itself, with its man-made earthbanks and ditches, covers an area of 12 acres with its strong, yet beautiful keep within. It soon became one of the most important in East Anglia, boasting a large list of several Lords and Ladies, from the de'Albigny Earls of Sussex to the Howard Dukes of Norfolk, with Isabella, Queen of Edward II, being its most famous resident.

I can see a castle from my bedroom window- Scarborough castle, North Yorkshire. It used to be owned by Piers Gaveston, a lover of Edward II.

I have been to a fair few Norman Castles on the welsh border - all of them arround Herefordshire, apparently there are more castles per square mile in Wales than there are any where else in the world!

    Anyone notice my signature?

One of the most impressive castles in the country, bamburgh castle. The place is enormous and a great walk.

I was very disappointed in Stirling by comparison.

TBP: Sorry I don't really pay to much attention to the VV, English Architecture is a passion of mine this is a fantastic idea for a thread.

Aye, we do have a lot. Harlech, Caerphilly, Chepstow, Cardiff Castle, Castell Coch, Conwy, Caernarvon, Castell-y-Bere... (most begin with 'C')

    the list goes on.

English castles just don't have as much style as Welsh ones.

Welsh ones are better in my opinion- I've been to Castell-y-Bere loads of times...was free back when we had a caravan near-by! A good few other ones as well.

I propose a duel with unbiased independant adjudicators.

El Guapo Vs God (there is blasphemy if I have ever heard it)

    English Castle Vs Welsh Castle

Two photos per castle, different aspects in each one from any time period.

Up for the challenge God? Any volunteers to judge?

I accept your challenge but I want to see your photos first so I know what I have to beat.

Remains from a maybe less known welsh castle, Dryslwyn Castle, in the Towy valley.

    Views from the castle.
