Thread: iTunes Single of the Week

  1. #1

Default iTunes Single of the Week

The iTunes Single of the Week. Often overlooked, ignored, or forgotten by the masses and saved by a select few. However, without the SotW, many artists would have never been exposed to the general public. I guess this thread is to discuss the SotW and its impacts, the songs in general, etc.

A few months ago, the single "Walking on a Dream" by Empire of the Sun was released. My friend downloaded it, loved it, sent the word around. It's now one of the songs that was most listened to at my school. Interesting, no? I wonder how many artists and songs got their big break this way? I know Black & Gold by Sam Sparro became popular this way

Just what I'm talking about! Some of them are really quite good. Just go to the iTunes store home page, and for me it's near the center, a little ways down. It's Owl City this week
EDIT: It's free too, if you didn't know already

Not surprising, Now That's What I Call Music was always a top seller.

But it's not the general public, it's specifically people who like popular music and download the single of the week. And those people, like the people who used to buy NOW cds in olden times don't typically go on to buy the album as well.

It's not only popular music. I could think of a hundred people who would hate the current song, while only a select few do like it.

The SotW exposes a lot of people to new artists. No one at my school had ever heard about Empire of the Sun until it was a free single, and lots of people liked it. I even know a few people who bought the album it came off of
