Thread: 1400 Campaign

    Default Re: 1400 Campaign

I have a problem playing this campaign. It's, probably, not a bug so I am posting it here. Very early in the game some factions are destroyed very quickly by some other factions after several turns. For example, Serbia is destroyed very fast by Hungary, Genoa or Milan are destroyed by each other or by HRE too fast etc. I think that's just too quickly and not very interesting for the gameplay. So, is there a solution to make those or any other factions live much longer (how to make them stronger)?

    Cheers!

There are several ways to make them survive longer:

    1) Increase the starting army of Serbia, Genoa, Milan. However this will give these factions less money.

    2) Decrease the starting armies of HRE and Hungary. Though they'll be able to build up a large army quickly.

    3) Given them good reputation with the HRE or Hungary, or make them allies so the more powerful nation won't attack them.

Which one is the best will require testing.

How to increase or decrease the starting army of those factions or to give reputation?

All of these can be changed by editing the descr_strat.txt, which is in the 'data\world\maps\campaign' folders. The descr_strat.txt for the 970 campaign is in the 970 folder, the descr_strat.txt for the 1080 campaign is in the 1080 folder, and so forth.

When I want to change the settlement names in the 1400 campaign, I go to and edit the 'C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\conquest\data\text\eras\imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt'. I think I am doing everything correctly, but nothing happens, all stayes the same. Before, I used to do it the same and it worked, but now since I installed 2.1 patch, it doesn't work.

    Any clue?

This mod changes eras by copying files from various folders, so each time you change the era it copies the files from the relevant folders to the right place.

Once you've edited the 'mods\conquest\data\text\eras\imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt' you need to replace the 'mods\conquest\data\text\imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt' with the new version, as M2TW uses this file.

You may also need to delete the 'imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt.strings', so M2TW can make a new version of it.

Well, I tried to do it, but no changes. Is there anything else that might change this?

It's possible that you've changed the name of a region that's listed in the 'imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt' but isn't in the descr_regions. These entries may be there because when I remade the 1400 map I added some new regions but didn't delete some old regions from the 'imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt'. Alternatively there may be two entries for the same region, so if you only edit one entry M2TW may use the other entry for the region's name.

Also are you starting a new campaign to test the new names or reloading an old one? Some changes only occur if you start a new game, as the save file keeps the old settings.

I got it now! You told me earlier to delete the 'imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt.strings'. I deleted the 'mods\conquest\data\text\imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt.strings' so that M2TW can make a new version, but I didn't delete the 'mods\conquest\data\text\eras\imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt.strings'. Now I deleted both "txt.strings." and it's working just fine.

Thanks for your help and patience!

In 1385 Poland and Lithuania entered a personal union (Union of Krewo). This union was formalised by the Union of Vilnius and Radom (1401) and made permanent by the Union of Lublin (1569). Though both Poland and Lithuania still existed in 1400 they were ruled by the same royal family, this is why they're represented as the same country. M2TW has no other way of representing two countries ruled by the same person.

I also represented Denmark, Norway, and Sweden as one faction during the Kalmar Union.

they still WERE not 1 COUNTRY!! Jagiello was a lithuanian, first he was the ruler of lithuania and then he was the ruler of poland, and after him vytautas so and still even that 1 royal famly ruled 2 countries doesnt mean that they are the same country!!

ps. i didnt try your mod but i suspect that everything is polish and none lithuanian.... the famly tree is polish the soldiers are polish the buildigs are polish

As I stated there's no other way to represent two countries that have the same ruler. If I made two factions each would need their own separate family tree, each containing the same family members. If you have a better of representing Poland and Lithuanian I would like to hear it.

I'm using an AoR system so the soldiers you can recruit depends upon the different regions, the buildings are the same for Poland and Lithuania, and the family tree depends upon who was ruling the country at the time. However most of the names of the general are Polish. Were there an equal number of Polish and Lithuanian generals during this time period?

uanime, if you still have any free faction spots, or are willing to shift/remove some, I would seriously consider bringing in Burgundy as a faction. The 15th century saw great attempts at total independence and expansion for Burgundy, which was not finally quelled until the end of the century drew near. Plus, with all the regions for europe, I can think of no better map for you to attempt this than this one.

splendid! Now, I know that by 1400, the original Duchy of Burgundy (with geographical starting positions roughly the same to where you placed 970 Burgundy) had also merged with the Free County of Burgundy, and the Dukes of Burgundy also owned Bruges and the surrounding Flemish territory. So for the map, I would recommend giving Burgundy the following regions:

    -Bruges
    -Dijon
    -Lyon

from 1465-1477 the Duchy of Burgundy also added the Netherlands and influenced all and owned nearly all of Lorraine. So with that in mind, you COULD, if you wanted to, also give 1400 starting Burgundy Metz and Antwerp regions as well.

The Duke of Burgundy in 1400 was Philip the Bold, (1342-1404). John the Fearless (1371-1419) was his successor. By this time Burgundy was almost independent, and a very key player in 15th century medieval politics and warfare.
