Thread: Power Metal

    Default Power Metal

Let us discuss power metal, Iron Maiden included even though they aren't technically power metal, as power metal would not exist without them. I like Iced Earth.

Used to be a big Hammerfall fan and their earlier albums still rules but these days they are quite average.
Manowar is still good even tho DeMaio's ego gets bigger and bigger with each album.

Iron maiden isn't, wasn't and never should be considered Power Metal, i.e. boring music, with endless dick waving contests (high technics boring guitar solo).

Iced Earth, if anything, is progressive Metal. At least, used to be.

There is a fantastic Kamelot track - "March Mephisto" - always good in a club. Even the goths skulking in their corner enjoy it.
I'll let you look it up though

Power metaaal... Conquest of Steel, despite their NWOBHM pretentions, are basically badly produced power metal, lyrically and stylistically. Hugely enjoyable of course. Hammerfall I found got dull quickly - was fun getting into them, but when one realises that they take it seriously...

I already stated that Iron Maiden is not power metal.

It's like including Black Sabbath in any list of any kind of Metal.

NWOBHM is a fake genre, clearly.

Then why include Iron Maiden in this field of filth?

If I were to start a Nu-Metal thread, which I wouldn't...I would not drag Anthrax through such a torturous ordeal. Even if they were the biggest influence for Nu-Metal.

Well if you did like Nu-Metal, which you obviously don't, then why not? If you were having a discussion about a genre of music then their influences are fair game in my opinion.

Exactly, in your opinion. Artists that influenced the genre/artist are always mentioned separately.
In this particular example, Iron Maiden is pure Heavy Metal band. And nothing, I repeat nothing, can be said about them as Power.
