As silly as it seems, they are in the lore. Sorta...

More people than you think.
Well I don't know. Grim, gritty and dark and "realistic" atmosphere is what 99% of the M2TW mods is about already (which often also entails no change to battlemap textures, ergo: the same textures as M2TW which we again see in 99% of all M2TW mods).
Also, you're using a similar Warcraft 3 and WoW menu style, so why not with the models and battlemaps as well?
I really really hope you get some of the vivid colors of Warcraft 3 to this mod. At least make different from those boring M2TW textures. It's what would make the mod stand out and make it unique. It would give it a totally different atmosphere different from the other 99% of the mods.
Anyway that's what I would do.

Sengoku: Total War (a Shogun mod for M2TW) - Work In Progress
Late Roman Era Campaign Map for M2TW
Late Roman Units for M2TW
Globalization: making someone else's problem your problem
Why not try to recruit from the modders from Warcraft3? I'm sure you can find at least 2/3d modellers willing to mod such a grand idea.
I would gladly help but I only know basic C/C++, ETWstartpos editing, world builders, etc and I'm not sure how that can help. My only experience in modding is for game changes I want for myself and that's not even in M2TW.
Hope one day you can finish this

Pandarens were in it in WC3. They're no less stupid than any other faction. They're related to the Furbolgs, they're a part of the setting...
And @Aruthiel WoW doesn't have to follow the same plot and it's a different enough game play that it's appealing. Personally I don't like MMOs. I haven't played through WoW. I've tried, but I can't get into it. I like RTS games a lot better.

personally Lich king was nice with the story i dont see why all wc3 fans were angered, i was excited for cata. But Blizzard failed with the story in cata which is maybe why the wc3-wow players are leaving blizz? i left cause i got banned because of blizzard's stupid Bnet act which someone eles took my acc and i got it back but than they banned it. Can i sue them for that?
I believe the reason for the grumpiness over the Lich King's fall was to do with the fact that instead of having the characters from Wc3 who had been built up to be his slayers, we instead had a random Paladin being his slayer when said Paladin had almost no ties to the character at all. Many had hoped to see Sylvanas, Muradin or Jaina deal the finishing blow instead.
Yeah I was very disappointed when I found out who killed Arthas. Would have been alot cooler if sylvanas was the one to finish Arthas off. That would have been a good ending to the Lich King (although there will always be a Lich King! =P)
you kidding me I loved Reading the Lore Im so pumped I finally found the main forum for WTW. I think this is a great Idea and Warcraft 3 already offers a solid foundation. Cant wait for the Beta.
So this is just covering Warcraft 3? I saw in another forum you guys where talking about covering all the wars. Which I think would be cool from a lore stand point. But the third war defiantly offers itself to more factions and army I feel is more TW friendly. I love what Ive seen and will continue to fallow this mod
Nah, the most Total War mod friendly time period is set just prior to the Dark Portal Opening (but including it's opening as a campaign event), as at this point the 7 Human realms exist and are not in a grand alliance with one another let alone the Quel'dorei, Dwarves or Gnomes. Warcraft 3's period works to an extent, but it requires many more model variants to be made and thus is harder to create and implement.. plus in my opinion there are too many Alliances floating around.
I agree with PaulH. The Alliances don't fit too well with the Total War gameplay, but the way the team has planned it, t look really pormising
By the way, is there anything happening now?
well Lordaeron is le overlord and dalaran & smaller towns are just vassals? well i am impatient for this mod since i too have mapped in wc3 made my Azzy wars wit Ring wars mix named Medivh's Prophecy, Warcraft 3 is dying Blizzard has already took a blow in WoW through there acts, sc2 is just bad for modding/mapping, Diablo 3 i dont know. maybe if blizzard sees it just needs to release a good modding game & maybe remove the damn limits on sc2 so i can add more Wowish/wc3 models.
Edit: your pics bandwith. cant seem em anymore.

You guys still working on this?
I hope so.
Guess they onlu need models for the units, but that's the main problem since all their modelers have vanished and noone else wants to take it on themselves :/
I thought WOTLK was a great idea. It was the final chapter, to kill the biggest Villain in Warcraft history especially after the events in Warcraft 3. I stopped playing when cata came out. Blizzard is just pulling stuff out of their ass now. Stupid pandas.
Anyone know when an Alpha will be released Id love to see this mod go the distance
Unfortunately, this mod will likely never be released.
