There don't seem to be a lot of threads for it, but I love Victoria, possibly more than all the other Paradox games. I first got it for a fiver from Amazon, and me and some mates at school spent our free periods in the common room collectively figuring out how to play it. I'll never forget my WC game as Afghanistan

Seriously though, it might not have an official tutorial, but once you learn how to play, it seriously rocks, no?

It's a good game, personally I like the Hearts of Iron and Europa series better but Vicky has that great economic structure and difficult learning curve that those series lack. I'd love for them to do a remake of Vicky, maybe they'll hit that project up next after HoI 3 is done.

I love Vicky for sure. I wish that it would get updated control wise. The mouse not being able to zoom always bothers me. I think though that vicky is the deapest game and the best core game that Paradox has released. Plus Vicky can be hella hard.

yeah i like vickky its my second favorite paradox game (after EU2)

the economy system is really good - i just found wars and colonising a little annoying but i do really like the game (long live my Sardinia-Piedmont/Italian Empire!)

Vicky is hardcore and a very good game. I had to keep a bottle of Migraine aspirin around when i first tried to figure out what the hell it was i was doing.

Not my personal favorite Paradox title but definately deserves love.

Vicky and the Revolutions addon definitely have a place in my personal hall of fame.
They do have to share their place with Hearts of Iron 2 and Doomsday though because I just can't decide on one of the two.
It's true though that Vicky is a lot more in-depth in terms of economy, politics etc. than HoI. No wonder that I got my kicked by the AI in my first games because my economy was so far behind. Until I learned how to split and manage the POP's - that did it for me and provided me with enough means to gain time for learning some more tricks.

I didnt like it much , you get to a stage when it just becomes a chore to handle the goods and pop and I prefer more military focused like hearts of iron.

I've always held that if you can unite Germany succesfully and not get bullied by France and Russia afterwards, then you've finally got the knack of it!

I love the fact that in Vicky you can complete an entire game without ever going to war once and still end up in the top 8. Even as Krakow

Japan are good, because if you pick your event options right, you can get civilised for free in 1860ish. Though, if you're really skilled and accept the dutch letter near the start, in VIP you can manually civilise by the late 40s-early 50s.

I've had some of my best campaigns as Japan before, mainly because you can really easily beat up the Spanish and Russians once you become civilised.

as the ottomans.. i took all of eastern and and half of western europe, then i took russia up to moscow, and persia and north africa and west africa and south africa, and indonesia, and australia and half of india

    ahhh!!

and my economy was pretty good, except that i hav to keep some 500 divisions on constant alert for rebels and EVERYONE has migrated to south africa, to the point that south africa now has like 90 million people

and baku is 40 % german

Aaaah my Brazil game. Number 1 in the world, very few wars (Only two declared by me, both on the UK)

One of the things I love is that even Tunisia(!) has alternate flags in case they have a revolution (i.e. if Communists seize and hold the capital, the flag will change)

Most if not all nations have alternate flags for whatever ideology party takes over. Unlikely you'll see them all because the game makes it rather difficult (if not...impossible) for there to be a monarchist/conservative revolution. Reactionary, yes, but that will form a presidential dictatorship.

It's more likely you'll see the dictatorship, communist, democracy, or default flags.

Vic is my favorite, though I stopped playing...waiting for the next VIP mod.
"Therefore I am not in favour of raising any dogmatic banner. On the contrary, we must try to help the dogmatists to clarify their propositions for themselves. Thus, communism, in particular, is a dogmatic abstraction; in which connection, however, I am not thinking of some imaginary and possible communism, but actually existing communism as taught by Cabet, Dézamy, Weitling, etc. This communism is itself only a special expression of the humanistic principle, an expression which is still infected by its antithesis – the private system. Hence the abolition of private property and communism are by no means identical, and it is not accidental but inevitable that communism has seen other socialist doctrines – such as those of Fourier, Proudhon, etc. – arising to confront it because it is itself only a special, one-sided realisation of the socialist principle."

I just posted an update to my Victoria Game on the Empires Thread

    MARE NOSTRUM!

I concluded war with the Ottomans and gained chunks of lande in Bosnia and all of Albania. I then launched another war against Austria as the Prussians moved in from the North and enjoyed that beating. I also bought Mogodishu from Oman for like 200,000 dollars and 5 techs.

    The Score:

This is the planned extent of the Italian Colonial Empire before I convert it to HOI2, I may grab more if I am oppurtunistic. Shown by the black line.

I noticed that there was a flag change in my Italy game when I let Fascists (I think) occupy my capital.

I checked the events and found them all, then started firing them off for random countries, one of the best games I ever played.

Japan annexed Korea and China, Italy attacked Germany (And won), Austria was actually annexed (Rather than left to cling onto its generally boring existance).

I love Victoria, I'm actually crap at it and have very little idea what I'm doing but I'm still willing to admit its a good game and that there should be more like it
