What is your favorite unit in STW?
Mine would have to be either the Kensai or the Heavy Cavalry, though the Warrior Monks are good too.
But nothing can really stand up long against a full salvo of musket balls...

I like No-Dachi Samurai, they have an excellent attack capability, but they have almost no armor...
I thought they had heavy armour but were slow as heck.
I like musketeers the most.
The only problem with shogun is it has some silly units, such as the Geisha, which the A.I. doesn't know how to stop and the Kensai, a giant who can bring down 40 odd well trained samurii.
Yari, Heavy & Naginatta Thunderous cav rush!
oh and archers & musketeers

Necromancy! Ha haha!
Seriously, though, I do miss those cool movies from STW. I was ticked that MTW didn't have those.
Kensai!
No-Dachi samurai, especially if they're trained in a province with a good armourer.
I also like musketeers. There was this one battle where the enemy was charging uphill towards me. My archers quickly ran out of arrows, so they kept crashing against my line of Yari samurai. As they became pressed, my infantry reserves of No-Dachi and warrior monks bolstered the center and outflanked them on their left. All the enemy units were engaged on my center and left, and there were no more enemy reserves. They were trying to push straight through the center, and had lost all formation. My unit of musketeers needed a clear line of fire, so I sent them to the enemy's right. They were in five or six ranks, so they kept firing a volley every four or five seconds into that mob. They didn't inflict any friendly fire, and compelled the enemy to keep pressing against a solid center. I sent my cavalry around to the rear and closed the trap. Over a thousand enemy samurai and ashigaru died that day, mostly in that small area where they got pinned by yari samurai and mowed down by musketeers.
Kensai and Muskeeteers, supported with No-Dachi and Heavy Calvary....
