    Default Need warfare references

Could you guys post references to battles, tactics, infantry etc of this era. Here is one I found.
It gives a good overview of formations.

That reference is a bit late, the Napoleonic period only just creeps under the wire at the tail end of the period covered by ETW.

These are some of my reference links:

Not quite sure what you are looking for and why, but I can also recommend a few books on the subject.

Imperial Bayonets is an in depth study of the evolution of tactics and organisation.
The Art of Warfare in the Age of Napoleon is also very good and does cover the period before the revolution to a certain extent.
Battle of the American Revolution is pretty good for that campaign.

If there is anything specific you are interested in let me know and I'll help if I can.

BTW: The picture on that website is incorrectly labelled. It says 'Columns and lines of French infantry at Eylau, 1807' but in fact what you can see in the shot are a number of French battalions deployed in 'Column of Companies' along the road to the right in the background and in the foreground. The battalion in the middle ground is not deployed in line, but in 'Column of Divisions', unless the artists got the perspective wrong of course , but I think you can see the single Eagle raised above the centre of the forward division so it would seem to be a single battalion.

An excellent book is Brent Nosworthy's "The Anatomy of Victory: Battle Tactics 1689-1763" which unfortunately is now out of print.

You can buy it from online book sellers for about 150 US dollars. Not sure whether or not that is helpful

for books i can highly reccomend H. W. Koch's, The Rise of Modern Warfare:1618-1815 (1983). this book covers a broad spectrum and mentions many leaders, tactics and troop types. it give a good overview of absolutist warfare and is a handy reference.
