Thread: Letterman overtakes Conan in ratings

Default Letterman overtakes Conan in ratings

    The talk-show tides are turning.
Jay Leno dominated the late-night wars for years–but it took David Letterman just seven nights to top Leno’s successor Conan O’Brien.
‘The Late Show with David Letterman‘ beat ‘The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien‘ in the ratings Tuesday night, according to Broadcasting and Cable.
Dave pulled a 3.4 rating compared with Conan’s 2.9. The new ‘Tonight Show’ with Conan as host premiered to a 7.1 rating and has declined in viewership each night since his June 1st debut.
It’s too soon to tell if this is a new trend or a temporary slide.

But it’s no wonder CBS just renegotiated Dave’s contract to keep him on the air three more years….
Seems that Conan perhaps isn't going to go over too well in the new time slot? I thought it would happen but not after just about a week of shows. Could this just be temporary or do you think CBS will now have the dominant 11:30 time slot for a latenight talkshow? (Both the 12:30 aren't great, Fallon is just terrible though)
Forget the Cod this man needs a Sturgeon!

    Seeing Jay go is sad.

I used to watch Letterman, but that was like 6 years ago, and when it comes to Conan I agree with TB666, although some sketches/acts have been amusing.

I liked Conan more than Leno or Letterman. The guy always cracked me up more. With me though, it always depends on who has the the celebrity that I want to see on that night.

    Leno suuuuuucks

    Conan is awesome.

I guess the elderly people who tune into leno don't find Conan's form of humor quite as appealing.

You've obviously never seen his old timey baseball sketch. One of the greatest things of all time

Johnny Carson used to have some great stuff, and Jay Leno used to be funny, but he has been going downhill for the past several years. O'Brien is a waste of time to watch imo. I saw him once and never care to watch it again. Letterman has always been bad, though.

Who actually watches these shows? I've caught like 2 episodes combined in my life.

Conan is great, I've always really enjoyed him for years on his old time slot. I like Leno too, but his writers were way too family friendly for him. If you actually watch Leno do stand up he's HILARIOUS. At any rate I think Conan is solid, and it's just an adjustment time for him at the new time slot. Letterman is bad, I don't think he's funny at all.

And don't get me started on Jimmy "Crap Master" Fallon.

I like Conan the best, quickly followed by Leno. I've never been a fan of Letterman.
