    Default 18th Century Interactive History

    Glory of the New World

Welcome to Glory of the New World; a 18th Century Interactive History. This is a multi choice interactive which largely depends on the actual player. One person controls one nation in 18th century Europe, and from there they control finances, military, trade, colonization, etc. They are essentially the government of this country, and make all the decisions. Each turn I will post a Chapter, and then a list of decisions. You go through these decisions and decide you want to do, but this is not all. While these decisions are a requirement, you must expand on them and send in further orders (Not just the required, as they only deal with major problems you must face now). In these furhter orders you must move armies, fund explorers to discover and claim more land afar for your country, put more money into a local industry, establish trade routes to a rich country, etc, etc. All of these are sent to me by Private Message, and from there it is assembled to form a Chapter.

And then, the New Century is played out.

    Prologue
It is 1723. Europe has survivedtwo wars which have torn it apart financially and militarilly. The War of Spanish Succesion united one half of Europe against the other, from where they deployed massive armies and fought across the continent, costing thousands of lives. In this turmoil though many things changed. England and Scotland were finally united in 1707 to form such a powerful statemany fear it; yet its true power has not been reached, more scary is the thought of what might happen. France has been struck down momentarily, its power of the last few centuries cut down but a burning desire of vengence placed deep inside its beating heart. Spain is falling very slowly, its American colonies draining it of manpower and finance. Austria has lost its European satellites, and in their place powerful states have rised to; offering much potential. The Netherlands is a international economic powerhouse, Prussia has expertly trained, disciplined armies and numerous others prove their worth. Western Europe and Central Europe are on the brink of a new age, yet no one has tipped the scales.

In the east the Great Northern War ended two years before. While it dragged on for many years it brought about the greatest change. It formed the shape of modern Europe, the modern world. Sweden, with its aggresive armies, surged into the large country of Russia; considered a backwards, uncivilized country. Instead Sweden was completely defeated at Poltava. Its armies were sent back home in shame, disgrace and disarray which then funded the further collaspe of the Swedish monster. In its place rises Russia, with its millions of manpower, great economy and bright future. It stands as a giant black hole, sucking away the wealth of the surrounding countries. The superpowers of Sweden and Poland - Lithuania are collasping; respectively one has fallen away at once while the others falls slowly.

The fate of any of these nations hangs in a careful balance. With a great leader one of these nations can be taken to victory, ultimate victory. Each of them are placed on the cliff of greatness, each of them ready to rise as the next superpower. With a new age ready here, and a new world waiting afar, who knows what will come next?

Want to be the next great leader?
Do you want to be the next Peter the Great? The new Sun King? Do you think you have the courage, determination and focus to take one of these countries and throw it into the history books, forge legends of your country and yourself? This job will not be easy; it will require quick thinking, a sharp instinct and most of all; time.

If you think you have any of this then choose one of these nations to lead to glory:

    The Kingdom of France: Celsius
Louis XV (Nation ruled in place by Duke of Orleans)

The United Kingdom of Great Britain: RVFVS
    George I of Great Britain

    The Kingdom of Spain: Sidmen
    Philip V

    The Kingdom of Portugal: orko
    John V

    The ArchyDuchy of Austria: {BHC}Warman888
    Charles III

Republic of the Seven United Netherlands

The Kingdom of Prussia: Paladin Kamos
    Frederick William I

    The Kingdom of Denmark: MuttonChops
    Frederick IV

The Commonwealth of Poland - Lithuania: {BHC} King Jan III Sobieski
    Augustus II

    The Kingdom of Sweden: Snowball
    Frederick I

The Tsardom of Russia: The Man
    Peter I

    Some Thing's to remember...
This Iinteractive History will be big; with so many players moving, dealing, fighting, the world taking place by the players' actions, the Chapter's will be quite large. Obviously the Chapter's will take a little longer to make because of this, so please excuse some delays. This will put some pressure on me; but you, as the player, will also need to take some time to plan, think out your moves. I encourage you to plan ahead, think about where your army goes, how to play one country against another. You want to be the next superpower, so work towards it! While I am not forcing you to take part in this constantly, as I realize many other RL duties will cut down lots and lots of time, but even if you take out five minutes and put some effort and activity into this IH, it will make it a great, fun game for everyone.

    A few Rules
Play this IH as you would rule a nation. Everything they could do, you can do (Wthin the constraints of a text based game. You can't litreally go out and lead your army into battle. If you want to argue this then please go argue with your local doctor...). There are some little rules to clear things up.

    Recruiting Armies and Navies
In previous games this has become quite the player-slayer (Along with complicated economy rules). To make it much easier a simple system as been put in place. Instead of you, the player, recruiting armies and navies, the Lord's of your country will raise regiment's of their own, and when you feel like waging war you must send out orders to assemble the army somewhere. This will take time; I beg that when conducting military operations you take into thought all of the historical logistics and movement restraints.

The same system applies to navies. Admirals and captains will raise navies and actively patrol the seas surrounding your country. If you want the navy for an important action like transporting armies or escorting explorers to the Americas or a similar place, then simply order them somewhere to wait for embarkment.

    The dreaded economy system
This is one of the most boring parts of a game, well at least when I play them. If handled well this can be great fun, but sometimes it can be very un-fun to buy units, put ot here, assemble taxes, etc, etc. There's plenty of this in everyday life! Instead every month I will assign to you a certain amount of money. While you do have things such as upkeep to pay, this will be automaticlly done for you (by me).

The remaining funds are just as important but remain for the funner parts of the game. They can be used for naything, its your money!

To get even more money simply say you want to 'put more money into the devlopment of the economy'. I have my little notes and this will go towards increasing your industry, thus increasing the income you get. This can have effects, though. Modern machines might anger people as it takes their jobs, strikes might happen if your Lord's don't pay enough (Though these strikes can be brutally supressed as was the norm for this century), etc, etc.

The money you do get can be put into anything from buying mercanary armies if you need a quick army, or funding explorers and settlers to claim more land over the seas for the 'mother country'.

    Everything Else
A few extra notes. If you are inactive for more then two turns I will instantly kick you; even though sometthing may be happening I have no room for inactivity; this game needs to be constantly moving. I will happily let you join again once you have some more spare time. The turns will last for one season each. This way the effects of a season can be realisticlly simulated, while also maintaining a fast rate of gameplay which keeps it moving and exciting.

If you have questions about anything in this game, please ask here as other people might be wondering the same thing. I will happily answer any questions, queries and suggestions you have as they all improve this game and make it much more enjoyable for everyone (Including me!).

Choose your nation and the game shall begin
{BHC}Warman888 has given his blessing (and the go ahead) to this game. I would like to have a sub forum within this sub forum so that we can have mulitple threads for Chapter's, Rules, OT threads, etc. Every nation will eventually get its own Court where people will come for open diplomacy, offers, discussion, etc. Any other diplomacy is conducted by PM.

The map will be as historically accurate as possible so it will be the Europa Universalis III map (Seems pretty spot on but if anyone has some disagreements with this say so and provide something better). The map will mainly focus on Europe but will include the Americas, African shores and Asia.

Now all we need is players so hurry up and join!

You can still do a 17th Century IH; the two centuries are so completely diffrent it could be a thousand years apart. There is the Papacy, the religious side to it (A particularly good subject. This can spawn many gameplay elements this era is not capable of) and the true discovery of the New World.

I am taking the Ottoman Empire off the list. While a very big player in European politics, they're golden age was truly the century before, plus they have more interests (At least in the 1700's) in Africa and Asia. They will still be operated as a NPC (Non Player Country) along with the other nations such as the german states and Italian states, and to negotiate with them PM me. While still a NPC they will not be 'sleeping' and very much around and part of the game.

Also am posting the map later. It is very big; its the EUIII Europe map. I will include the Colony Maps in Chapter I.

Well; we can get started now. Six players is enough for a good game!

I think it would be best if everyone had a quick look over there recnt history of the nations they're controlling, and if you want a upper hand then other nations. A quick glance over in even Wikipedia should be enough.

I will post the First Chapter soon, which will be a summary of the position each nation is currently in. At the end is going to be the first set of orders; and then it will truly start. I will post a new thread for Chapter One, in that thread you can neogitate, show off propaganda, etc, etc. This will be the situation until, perhaps, we can get a sub forum for this game so it doesn't clutter this one up as much.

I wish each of you luck. The following century is,I predict, going to be a very bloody one.

You should ask the mods for a separate forum for this game. Make it much more organized.

and I have already done. I played France in an old WA game

Great, I will add you to the list now. Spain might be a bit weaker now with numerous wars but the Spanish Empire remains the biggest in the world.

    Awwn, no Edo Shogunate?
No. I don't know enough about this area of history (Which is a problem; I will get to reading though!) and wouldn't be able to put it properly into a IH. Plus this is more of a Eurocentric IH (European nations and their Empires); this was the age when Europe started to shoot ahead of the rest.

There still are several spots with strong nations. The Dutch have very strong Asian colonies; and near Japan.

and wouldnt it be smart to try to get others in? Great Britain was a major player, but no one wants to play it.
Yes, it would be handy. I am currently doing up a front page announcement for Aradan to post so that should get a few people in.

Muhahaha, I own everything not blue or purple.

And the purple will be mine again soon enough...

I am assuming that this game is very slow paced and laid back, because I don't think I'd have time for the hecticness that is an Alliances game ATM.

This game won't have too many requirements. What you must do to play is send in decisiosn every month. If you, or anyone else, can't take part in the daily diplomacy, events, etc, this will not matter so much as it is not a requirement for the game to continue.

I am starting a seperate thread from this and the Chapter one for the map. Its a big map, as it is from Europa Universalis III.

Default Glory of the New World: Chapter One

    Chapter I

    1723, January, Winter

It was winter, the season when Europe calmed down, when nothing moved. The fields were dead for now, the cattle placed safely in their barns, protected from biting winds. The cities were active yet had a sense of dullness summer never had, and the armies of these countries stayed firmly within their walls.

But was it the harsh winter which these people faced, or the deadly seasons of wars they had faced for decades now?

The people of Britain, recently united, north and south; had lost many of its son who fought across the sea on the mainland. Thousands died in battles they only ever heard about, battles which quickly sketched out legends and myths about the invincible British army. John Churchill confidently pushed over several French armies over the years... Blenhiem, Ramilles... before he was pushed over as were many others in that time, a new Britain dawning before the war ended in 1714. Now they were calming down, the thriving war economy was settling into its previous state. THe army was fattening, its soldiers slackening across the Empire in India and the Americas. One would wonder if they needed another war, yet the troops in the colonies were now being pushed as raids and wars threw themselves onto the soldiers, news never reaching home. The situation was barely understood overseas, only the money, as corruption, disease and war struck each of them. The Parliament, so recently stregthened, said they need to re establish these colonies, the old Britain of only a decade ago. They only needed one person.

The people of France were exhausted yet fuming with rage. Only 30 years before they had been regarded as the toughest army in Europe. Many would not face them without several standing armies of several nations. They easily waged war across several fronts, in 1690 they had faced the Allies in the Netherlands, Spain and Germany at once. Many marvelled at such wealth and power, the sheer powerhouse Franc was. The best economy, military and Empire in Europe. But when they had been so severely defeated in the War of Spanish Succesion, the Empire crumbled. The Sun King had failed, as France's armies were decimated and now lay a relic of the past, its troops demoralized and thousands upon thousands dead in the titanic struggles of the 20 years before. Its economy no better, completely slain as completely as a wicked dragon. The war had ruined it like air would eventually food. Slowly but surely. The effort it took to fight war on so many fronts and across the seas in North America and the West Indies had made the finishing mark. Now it lay dead, and the people looked back bitterly. If only one could restore France's former glory...

The people of Prussia were joyful for one. In 1713 their nation had been united and recognised. The two states of Brandenburg and Prussia forming together through the bruning remains of the Teutonic Crusade and the Protestant Wars of the 17th century to form such potential it worried many, with electors across the Holy Roman Empire angered into crying aloud in defiance of this unite. But Prussia was backed by might when its armies joined the Coalition in Bavaria and Holland to fight with the British, Danish, and other German states to completely defeat France. While only a porition of the Allied Army, many recognised the potential this weak, undertrained and unrecognised army had, with its fiery determination to prove itself. While its training and equipment was horrible, with a slight push it could be turned into such an army the elites of Britain, Austria and France would perhaps fear it, and along with the army, Prussia. If only one Elector would take this new Kingdom to its true heights...

The people of Spain are wary and cautious. The monarchy of their nation sparked off a war on a scale not seen for some time. The whole of Europe was engulfed in the war, and now it is mainly a wreckage due to the arguement over Spanish rule. The lands of Spain were fought over, rather bitterly and proudly, between the Allied forces led by Great Britain and France. This has left Spain's economy in ruins, and with the added strain of its massive overseas Colonial Empire many look on at the carcass of Spain with lust. Yet a strong, traditional army remains to defend the lands of the Spanish monarch. A highly elite force which was the ruling army for centuries, the same army which defeated the Islamic forces in southern Spain and Portugal, the same force which defeated the hundreds of thousands of Aztec and Incan forces i the Americas, the same force which single handly claimed Italy in numerous wars. Yet many doubted it stood so high anymore. Though proud, the struggly economy has failed to equip its soldiers properly, and its forces have been defeated many times beyond count. With all of this, the Empire could simply collaspe in on itself, and if another Empire added its might to this push, chaos would reign and the mighty Empire's of Europe would swarm over this land. All Spain needs is one leader to assemble Spain's forces and defend the country once again...

The people of Portugal are excited and eager. The tiny country has long been pushed around by its Spanish neighbour, even coming under its control once before. many doubted such a small country could rise up so high, yet it now rivals the mighty Spanish Empire. When Spain was pushed out and a alliance formed with Great Britain, the economy was fuelled by the superpower Britain was. Over the centuries, starting after the defeat of Islam's armies in 1492, Portugal rose beyond belief. Its armies were bold and aggresive, stregthened by the eager Imperial Spanish government which was ejected in the 17th century. With Britain taking firm hold of Portugal's economy and making it even stronger, its power continues to rise as lands were claimed in the Americas. The entire area of Brazil was conquered, snatched from the Spanish by a strong Colonial empire none could match, while in Asia colonies were set up. Though small were they, of the likes of Goa and Timor, the government set up rpomised many Colonial troops for homeland Portugal and even more wealth. The future of this bright, young country seemed very optimistic indeed, and with one great leader this nation could propel itself into legend, beating those ten times larger, with only one, great leader...

The people of Austria were confident and bold. The large Archduchy of Austria was the Europe's superpower. Even with the strong armies of France, or the elite training of Britain, none could match the hordes of Austrian soldiers who had dominated Europe for centuries; since the times of the Romans. Austria has grown much since then, its land huge. It has large portions of the Holy Roman Empire, ruling over that Confderation as it had for many years; its will was Germany's will. On the other hand it had Italy under firm control, with much of the north occupied by Austrian soldiers and the country's influence spearing towards the Spanish aligned south. To the east stood the strong borders facing the large, mammoth Ottoman Empire. A century before Austria had stopped several Ottoman armies dead in their tracks, before hweeling them back towards Turkey and claiming even more land. The economy was thriving, and it would soon be able to sponser so many armies many might feel inclinded to stop the rapid growth the coming century proposed. If all remained on track, many were predicting that very few could ever challenge Austria, but cracks were appearing in this iron wall. Ethnic tensions were rising al over the Archduchy, as many called out for independance as they had enjyoed for centuries. If these cracks were not sealed, the golden age predicted could soon be completely wiped away for a bleak, dark future. All Austria needed was one leader to keep it together and push it forward...

The people of Poland and Lithuania were frightened and worried. The magnificent Commonwealth of Poland and Lithuania had promised great glory and much advance. This had proven true, the previous century this Empire had easily rivalled the glorious superpowers of Sweden and Austria. Its sweeping army brushed away opposition easily, with the Ottoman siege of Vienna, the centre of Europe in the 17th Century, broken only because of the large Polish army coming to its rescue. May marvelled that the Commonwealth army had such power to beat back the Ottomans, but many more were astounded at the shape of its economy. It was growing rapidly, with more land being claimed from the weak Russian Tsardom. Lands previously claimed by Teutonic, Russian and Tartar lords were being taken for the Commonwealth, along with much wealth. But now it was failing, dieing. When Sweden swept through Saxony and Poland in 1709, it put an end to a golden age which was still promising. But with Sweden defeated an even bigger threat rose from its ashes; the new Tsardom of Russia. This huge Empire was still growing, a baby amongst European politics, but with its massive land mass and even bigger population, many were frightened for Poland's future. All the people needed was one leader to bring Poland back, retake the Golden Age and hold the gates against the Russian monster...

The people of Russia were powerful and aggresive. This huge Empire had taken many hits in its long life. In the times of the Romans a fragmented Russia had emerged, and from there it grew into a powerful country. But many of the superpowers, France, Britain, Poland and Austria, regarded Russia as a backwards country which could never match the disicpline of them. When the powerhouse which Sweden was invaded in 1704, and defeated the Russians at Narva, many nodded in acknowledgement. That was until the economy was kickstarted, Russian officals pushed the Russian army forward, modernizing it and the country. The economy, military, all aspects of Russia were modernized and pushed forward. Sweden was defeated by this 'backwards' country at Poltava, and with one stroke Russia emerged as a superpower, drawing attention from around Europe. Eyes on this war, Russia pushed back Sweden to its homeland, taking land in Ukraine, Estonia, Finland and parts of Lithuania. Many cold not believe this as reports came back of its might, and it continued to spread its dominance across the Asian lands of Russia. Many eagerly looked east at the lands which lay beyond the mountains of the Urals, and others looked west at the struggling Commonwealth of Poland - Lithuania and the Empire's beyond, and some ven south at the hills which protected Russia's weak underbelly, where lay Georgia and Turkey. Many whispered they needed one more great leader to claim these rightful lands, take Russia forward into a golden future, just one...

With al of their futures set out, amny looked forward towards what many saw as a new age of Glory. Technology was rapidly advancing, economy was rising for all nations and new land was being discovered by the day. No body knew what might happen from now on, but many were sure it all depended on those who led these great nation's. As if for centuries their ancestors had been setting these few decades up, but in these few decades rested the weight of the world's future, and there were only several people who decided that. Whatever may come, be that dreadful, bloody wars or devastating disasters this age would have glory...

    Glory of the New Age

    Decisions, Decisions...
This is the first turn most will have had to make these decision, so I will explain it again. Over the following lists I will write decisions every leader MUST make. THese are nessacary, required for this game to advance and for your nation to as well. 99% of the time these will be choices which you are pressured into right at this moment, but there will be a range of choices you must make which I can't wirte down every turn. You might want to fund a expedition to the New World, send more troops over to your Colonies, order your Army to mobilize, move your army into territory..etc, etc. When you have made your mind about all of these choices, decisions and all of that, compile them and send them in a Private Message to me. I will keep these stored and then, after a month, will write out the next Chapter which at its end will include all of the new decisions and reactions.

Obviously diplomacy, any other events between nations, propaganda or discussions, RP'ing, etc will be conducted in this thread (For now.). I will notify everyone when we can get our own little sub forum. I will try and send out decisions by PM but for now it will be here, so please don't look too much at the other Choices!

    The Kingdom of France
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    1) In 1713 the treaty you made with Great Britain and Holland promised many things in their favour. Now the Dutch have a line of forts in the Spanish Netherlands which can, quite effectively, stop any of your forces in their tracks. Also in this treaty was a promise to recognise the true leaders of Britain and stop the support of the Pretender James II. Some of your advisors have been, secrelty and away from British ears, proposing that you continue funding this effort to bring down the British throne. It is very risky, war coudl break out again and it might ruin France for good, but if it works Britain can be brought down without any need for fighting.
(a)No, I do not want to get involved in this as it is too much of a risk to France as a whole.
(b)No, as I always honor treatys.
(c)Yes, offer him some funds at once, but do not put too much effort into it.
(d)Yes, offer him absolute funding and tell him you'll consider other support.

2)In 1697 the treaty signed after the War of the Grand Alliance shamed France. Though you attempted to right these wrongs in the War of Spanish Succesion, some of them still burn. One is the issue of the control of Luxembourg. This small state holds the crossroads between the Holy Roman Empire, the Austrian and Dutch Netherlands, the Rrepublic of Holland and France. Because of this it proves to have very high value, but it was taken from you in 1697. There may by oppurunities to get it back, but will you pursue them?
(a)Yes, put some of my court members straight on the job of finding any possible means to get Luxembourg back.
(b)I will consider it; put several to the job but make it a low priority.
(c)No, I will not risk another war have three wars in a row (1690's, 1700's and 1710's)

3)There are several colonists coming back from North America, the Quebec colony, who have requested a audience with you and are, apparently, very eager. The news or requests they bring may bring more trouble then its worth.
(a)Graciously give them a welcoming ceremony, and give them as much comfort as possible.
(b)Give them some time to talk but not too much.
(c)Tell them to send a letter with whatever they have to say.
    (d)Ignore them.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

1)With the three recent wars it has brought much more trouble. With the victory in 1714 and again in 1720 you have gained control of several colonies which need immdiate attention. The two biggest are those of Gibraltar and Minorca. Both of these were taken before 1710, but now matters are surfacing after the wars have finished. The main problem is the garrison. Transportation to these two settlements is complicated, due to the closeness of the Spanish homeland, and the Governor of Gibraltar reports there is a possibilty you may offend the Spanish government, and even monarch.
(a)Send several regiments to both of these settlements at once, we can not afford any Spanish threat.
(b)Send a one regiment to both of these places.
(c)Recruit and install a Spanish garrison.

2)Two trading companies recently merged, in 1708, after much competing which lasted since their formation in 1608. With their merging, to form the East India Company, or for short HEIC (Honorable East India Company). While the British government has been busy with the two wars and uniting, the HEIC is now pushing for some rules to be set out. They demand a monoply of trade coming from the Indian sub continent. This means that, essentially, a system of Free Trade shall be set up. The benefits are that the management of the Indian trade is well cared for, and possibly even its defenses, this may cost you in the long term.
    (a)Yes, grant them free trade.
(b)Grant them low trading costs but no more.
(c)No, refuse this and ask for them to negotiate something else.

3)Ireland is considered a free state but you, Britain, still control most of it. Though mostly Protestant there is a fiearce resistance being set up by the Catholics. This has been termed a threat, as Ireland consists of a large majority of overseas trading for Britain. Some warn this could actually pose a serious threat to your economy if resistance continues. Some are requesting you stop this 'revolt' but some say it will cause more toruble then its worth. Before you can order anything, a declaration of assent for any Acts on this is required.
(a)Yes, the situation is getting worse and Britain must protect its trade.
(b)No, I will not risk losing the Irish lands, or harming the people.

4)The Old Pretender of James II was stripped off any support with the treaty of 1714, but it is a very large possibility that the French may still be funding him. This could mean the collaspe of the British throne, and your country and throne. If it is discovered that the French still fund James this is a severe breach of the treaty, and you would have every right to further declarations of war or demands by diplomacy.
(a)Authorise any overseas operations to gain information on this matter.
(b)Authorise tighter security within Great Britain.
(c)Ignore this matter; the French would never break a treaty this way.

    The Kingdom of Spain
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

1)In the two wars of the last 20 years, the most recent ending a mere three years ago, you lost much territory which is rightfully Spain's. There remain some legitimate claims in Europe. One of them is Gibraltar. The city was lost to the British in the War of Spanish Succesion and they still have control over it; this is a problem as it controls the sea way from the Med Sea through to the Atlantic, the most important sealane in the world in which Britain has total dominance and monopoly of. Your advisors are saying it may be possible to take it back through several means, but would take much planning. One advisor has spotted a good way to usurp British rule and that is the delicate matter of garrisons.
(a)If the British send regiments to Gibraltar spread rumors and propaganda about how they do not trust the people.
(b)Challenege British rule openly, however means you wish, but try to anger the Spanish populace in Gibraltar.
    (c)Do nothing.

2)Another claim which you could seize on is that of Southern Italy. This is rightfully yours and has been for centuries, but the Austrians conquered it in the War of Spanish Succesion, and like Gibraltar, still control it. This means they have both North and South Italy, and have almost the entire landmass. You may be able to gain this land back if you wish, but some are reluctant to help if the monarch does not support it.
(a)Yes, with any means possible. Spain will even try to help.
(b)es we support it in theory but will not actively and openly do so.
(c)No, Spain will not take any chances with Austria.

3)In South America you own most of the land except for Brazil which is Portuguese. The Portuguese may be turning a eye south, which is unclaimed land, and this could mean a serious threat to your lands there. There are some explorers waiting. If you fund them enough they will head south and claim this land for themselves.
(a)Yes, fund them at once! Be that military and money.
(b)Give them money and offer them the best.
(c)No, we can defend our lands with Spanish courage.

    The Kingdom of Portugal
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

1)Portugal's overseas Empire has expanded rapidly since the split from Spain half a century ago. Now you have Brazil, numerous chunks of land on the African coast and several colonies littered across Asia. Your Colonial advisors are admitting some work needs to be done, though they are in pretty good condition. One worry right now is the African colonies. You have large masses of land across the coast, on the South East and West on either side of the Dutch colony of Cape Town, and they are constantly being raided and pillaged by African kingdoms further inland, away from European contact. News of this quickly spreads back home to Portugal and is, obviously, discouraging any more settlers.
(a)Send as many troops as possible, and will take it from there.
(b)Give some troops to a general and let him do the work; other things require my attention.
(c)Raise and train troops in these settlements.
(d)Ignore the situation; it should pass over.

2)Another colony which requires a lot of attention is Goa on the coast of India. This small piece of land is quite the profit for Portugal; yet it is surrounded by the massive, warring Indian empires who have little respect for the European empires invading there lands. People returning from Goa report the port is thriving with travellers who do not want to stopover at the British held ports further south, but tension is high as the Indian empires quietly and slowly move in. Advisors insist action must be taken, but what action will that be?

3)The sea link to Timor is a strained one. The small colony is on the very outskirts of known land or sea, but it is also surrounded by unexplored islands and the Dutch cotrolled shain of islands further north. The sea link to this small island is a strained one, it is dangerous and is reported to be infested with pirates and Dutch buccaneers. A navy admiral taking leave in Lisbon says you need to send many ships to contain the valuable colony, while advisors estimate only several are needed for the defence of the small island.
(a)I will send as many ships as possible.
(b)I will send three or four.
(c)I will send none. Why do they even need such a well defended sea link?

4)The large colony of Brazil is well maintained and has been in Portuguese hands for a very long time now. Explorers have been pushing the boundary of the Portuguese Brazil for several decades now and they want to start a new expedition. While not revealing much, one group is demanding the funds as they have discovered a 'suprise'.
(a)Grant them the funds nesscary at once.
    (b)Do not give them anything.

5)To the south of Brazil lies uncharted and unexplored areas. Some estimate there is land there, and others say that if there is land there it will give Portugal a direct route into the weak flank of the Spanish Empire, of the need ever came. Of course, funding of any ways to go south would be expensive, but many warn it would be worth it.
    (a)Yes, grant the funds.
(b)No, we are happy with our current borders.

    The ArchyDuchy of Austria
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

1)The lands of Austria have expanded signifcantly in the last ten years. In the War of Spanish Succesion you managed to gain control of the land of Spanish Naples, that is southern Italy, Sicily and Sardinia. All of these lands are traditonal, rich Spanish (More spcificlly Aragonese) land. Because of this the population, Naples and Sardinia particularly, feel hostile to any Austrian occupation. THis has not been confirmed yet.
(a)Yes, I will send regiments south at once. Any hostile actions must be dealt with instantly and with force.
(b)Send troops down in a more peaceful aligned garrison.
(c)The few regiments we have there will be sufficient for a garrison.

2)You have the same situation in several spots across the Austrian Empire; another one being Luxembourg. It was recently taken from French control in the War of Spanish Succesion, yet its population regards itself as Luxembourgish rather then French or Austrian. How do you wish to enforce your rule?

3)In your side is another small city, which is a self declared state. The city of Salzburg has long been independant of Austrian control, even though it is situated near Vienna and in the core of the Austrian lands. Though a alliance has been strong for centuries now, some are pushing that the city has grown beyond belief. It would be a great benefit to have control over its resources, but this good stir tensions with Bavaria, and would be a hard task.
(a)Send a propoal for the peaceful unifacation of Salzburg and Austria, with Austria the larger partner.
(b)Try and usurp the Salzburg government.
(c)Propose to the Holy Roman Empire that Austria takes government control of Salzburg, but not completely.
    (d)Do nothing.

4)On the far eastern borders of your Empire lies the state of Wallachia. While part of it is Ottoman and another Austrian, the other part of it remains free, and next to the valuable Black Sea. Advisors are whispering this would be a good state to control with its strategic location, but it might stir buried arguements with Russia and the Ottoman Empire.

    The Kingdom of Prussia
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

1)Even with Prussia booming and the world starting to becoming slightly wary of your new power, many states remain defiant and angry towards the grant of Kingdom to Brandenburg. Most of these German states surround the small mass of land you control, and the main two are Hamburg and Mecklenburg which are to your west, and Saxony to the south. While Saxony is a strong part of the Poland Lithuania Commonwealth, many see Mecklenburg and Hamburg as tempting targets, and national pride and ggresion has been stirred with the recent, succesful wars. Some are asking if you would be happy with war, and if so would you support the annexation of the two rich states?
(a)Yes, I would happily focus on these two states and annex them.
(b)If war happened to come about I would defend Prussia!
(c)No, I would not like a war ignited for the sole purpose of conquest.

2)Many are admiring the rapid growth of the Prussian kingdom, and even moreso with the spectacular performance during the War of Spanish Succesion, Blenheim in particular. Many are pointing out modernization is needed to keep up with the superpowers of Britain and Austria. Several tacticians have stepped forward for the job of modernizing the Prussian army.
    (a) Francis de Vaugh; a powerful, rich French tactician who promises to bring the former might of France to Prussia's army.
(b)Hans Salzburg; a quiet tactician from the Palatine in the western half of the Holy Roman Empire, he boldly proclaims that he can raise Prussia to the tactics of the Austrian line which he has dealt with for a long time.
(c)Heinrich Haigh; a former general in the old Brandenburg army, he claims he has written and revised some new tactics Europe has never seen.
(d)You. While maybe not a expert tactician, expermimenting may be easy with the peaceful climate.

3)While the Prussian land army has been praised highly, there is no Prussian navy to speak of. Many see this in shame, as Prussia occupies a highly strategic position on the brink of the Baltic Sea, which is such a contested economic sea which controls Denmark's, Norway's, Sweden's, Russia's and Poland's signifcant economy. Many wonder if you want the load of a Prussian navy and army?
(a)Yes, this would be in Prussia's best interest.
(b)No, this would turn the focus away from our growing land army.

    The Tsardom of Russia
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

1)With Russia modernizing so quickly the economy falters as it surges ahead so quickly. Some predict that, even with the amazing growth of Russia's wealth, the complete construction of the French inspired city of St.Petersburg could drain a lot of money for this growth. The builders are now cautious; do you wish to continue with this portal to a new age?
    (a)Yes.
    (b)No.

2)Many are saying that Russia's future lays in the east; many expect that beyond the Ural mountain lay large expanses of land which hold legendary, mythical nations which no European nation has contacted. Others expect there to be a New World like the Spanish discovered three centuries before, others think there'll be an even larger sea. What exactly likes there is a mystery, but many are pushing for you to go forth and examine this land.
(a)Yes, at once. I may even go forth with them.
    (b)Yes, fund an expedition.
(c)No, this is not in our best interests.

3)With Finland under firm, strict Swedish control, there have been several high ranking government officals crossing to the new, under construction city of St.Petersburg, who all question whether Russia supports a Finnish independance movement? While information remains limited with a tight Swedish border maintained, some in St.Petersburg claim with one push the Finland will fall.
(a)Yes, Russia will support any resistance against Swedish rule, and if in the case of a revolution we will support armed resistance.
(b)Russia will fund a movement such as this.
(c)Russia will not risk further war with Sweden.

4)The Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox churches have started arguing in Russia with its sudden growth. While the religious disturbances of last century have passed in Central and Western Europe, new religions are flooding into the open, welcoming Tsardom of Russia. Is there one religion you will set and support?

The Commwealth of Poland - Lithuania
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

1)The crumbling Commonwealth faces many challenges with its territories; one of them is the contested region of Wallachia. While it is officially controlled by the Ottomans, both the Russians and Austrians and even lords of Poland claim it is theirs. There has been rumors Austria is readying to act on this, but will you support your lords in a offensive action in such an event?
(a)If the Austrians or Russians move commit troops to holding Wallachia, whatever the cost.
(b)Fund a resistance in the region, invasion or not.
(c)No, we will not risk war.

2)Saxony is falling slowly away from Poland. Even with a Saxon leader of Poland only a few years before, it is sliding back into a the Holy Roman Empire. THey are a valuable assest to Poland, and wealthy, but its electors may think otherwise of the massive Polish commonwealth.
(a)Open up negotiations with offers of....
(b)Demand they fall into the Commonwealth or war will be declared!
(c)See what happens, they may not.
(d)Ignore the matter entirely. Who needs Saxony?

3)The ruling power behind Poland Lithuania's elected rulers, the Sejm, have been reported of being bribed by foreign powers. An obvious well known is when the Sejm were brined in 1699 to bring the French Prince of Conti into power, before he was usurped by ruler Augustus II of Saxony. Alarm has spread across the population over this obvious corruption. What measures will you take against this bribery?
