Castles in PKH

This is a work in progress page tied to some of the relevant castles we are intending to use. Our basic plan is to use several specific strat map castles and use either individual or suitably generic battle map models for those castles (ie using appropriate vanilla models or as we are hoping some specific models – see world modifier thread).

Although work in progress here are screen shots of some of the castles made so far (strat map views). Can you identify them?

my guesses:

castle 1 - Dover
castle 2 - Chepstow
castle 3 - Framlingham
castle 4 - (looks welsh)
castle 5 - Windsor
castle 6 - looks like a half finished Bodiam

1 and 3 are right.
4 isn't Welsh
5 is close I've actually used the same model for Windsor as they are very similar but I based it on the 'other one' both have had a lot more modern buildings added.
6 - the half finished is actually right - the intent was originally to build it with full towers in each corner and the the half towers in each middle but this changed (not sure if it was lack of money or just political reasons).

#2 is Pembroke - the circular donjon is the giveaway. Long time since I was down there (in the pouring rain)
#5 is Arundel

#4 is this a generic motte and bailey or is the crag significant?

Correct on those two
So only 4 and 6 to go.

By the way the heraldry should help (to a certain extent). Flag above Arundel is the heraldry of the Earl of Arundel so that was a bit of a give away

So just need to work out 4 and 6

For 6 the orientation ie north/south is correct and its a motte with an inner tower (bit unusual). The crag should probably be more grassy though. Again heraldy should help give a general location.

re #4 the only castle i know with a tower inside a shell keep is Launceston in Cornwall

anyway a good unfinished castle is kirby muxloe which quadriangular - but that has square towers so its not that.

the heraldry - hmm barry of azure and or with a chief gyronny of azure and or with an argent shield in the middle -dunno

what county is it in?

thats right its Launceston.

Heraldry belonged to the Earl of Cornwall

Just #6 to go (and #7 and #8)
