Thread: Some future unit ideas

    Default Some future unit ideas

Now just remember these are just ideas, most will probably never be seen and some have already been mentioned. I just wanted to give ideas for the TATW team and perhaps even submodders... so here I go.

    OotMM:
Boldog: Extremely powerful goblins possessed by a Maiar. (Extremely small unit pools, more powerful than any other orc unit and unroutable)
Balrog: Creature of flame and fire twice the height of a man. (Now the movie actually doesn't depict them accurately and the books description isn't quite as impossible to make. It's just a huge human like figure wreathed in shadow and flame.. the shadow and flame part could be shown just by a cool texture.)
Wargs: Intelligent wolf creatures that are friends to the goblins
Greater Goblin: It is possible that the greater goblins were actually Boldogs, but they could be shown as a separate entity.
Hobgoblins: Hobgoblins are most likely Greater Goblins, still for the sake of exactitude I felt obligated to place them.
Stone Trolls: Primitive trolls without armor or weaponry, they are however among the largest of trolls though they turn to stone in the sun. (Obviously they won't be able to turn to stone so like 30 heat value instead.)
Hill Trolls: Smaller trolls wielding a large buckler and hammer.
Goblin Billorc: Using cruel bills these goblins are trained to bring down tall enemies so they can be easily taken down.

    Isengard:
Half-Orc Axeman: Powerful orcs bred from both man and goblin and well able to tear through most formations.
Dunland Axeman: Strong and ruthless axemen.
Dunland Archers: Lightly equipped hunters who are sent to war with little training and a sorry excuse for a bow of war, still, they are familiar with the bow.
Dunland Clan Lords: Equipped with powerful two handed swords, these men are devastating shock troops.
Orthanc Gaurd: Unwilling to trust his orcs with any large responsibility he has armed the most elite men of Dunland and dissafected Eorlingas with heavy plate and swords and shields of great quality. (Only 1 unit at a time)
Uruk-Hai Warriors: The most powerful of the Uruk-Hai, equipped with both bow, sword and shield and armored in light plates, they were bred to hunt down the ringbearer and other enemies of Saruman.
Ruffian: Scoundrels and bandits from the North, these men aren't much to look at but make up for it with their love of death and destruction. Armed with crude clubs and cudgels they are best employed for meat shield duty.
Uruk-Hai Sappers: Carrying destructive bombs these Uruk-Hai suicide charge into enemy fortifications and ignite their bomb to take out any structure in their path.\
Uruk-Hai Grenadiers: Wielding bombs much like the sappers but much smaller in size these Uruk-Hai throw a volley into the enemies ranks before charging at the demoralized remnants.
Dunlending Cavalry: While the men of Dunland are not horse people like the Rohirrim, their long wars with said people have led them to understand the importance of having a cavalry force.

    Mordor:
Nurnen Conscript: Lightly equipped slaves sent to fight and die for their Lord Sauron.
Werewolves: Dark creatures from Dol Guldur they fight with a ferociousness and grace that shows they are no true wolf.
Nurnen Taskmaster: The luckier men of Nurn who are chosen to keep the other slaves at work, they are slightly more heavily equipped and have some training.
Wraith: Minions of Sauron like the Nine, but far less powerful. They are deadly but vulnerable and are best used as ambushers.
Orcs of the Red Eye: Superior orcs equipped in gear bearing the Red Eye of Sauron.
Orcs of Minas Morgul: A proud army of orcs arrayed in gear bearing crescents and moons of the tower of the moon.
Greater Orcs: While not of the newer breed of Uruks some of the orcs of the mountains surrounding Mordor have grown larger through natural evolution, they are as strong as Uruks but without their discipline or intelligence.

    Harad:
"Troll" men of Far Harad: Tall and powerful men who are so large that some mistake them to be part troll, they are well able to take on any opponent with a fair chance of success.
Wildmen of Harad: Men who live in the deep jungles in the far expanses of the south, they are lightly equipped but will fight like mad men for the Dark Lord.
Dark Numenorian: Dark Numenorians who stayed in Umbar and now rule over the corsairs and have for all intents and purposes, become one of them. Their blood is much less pure than those of Mordor and therefore they are much less skilled in combat, however they are still a force to be feared.

    Rhun:
Rhunnic Swordsmaster: Rhunnic lords wielding large sabers of excellent craft, these men are among the greatest and most refined of human sword wielders upon Middle-Earth.

    High Elves:
Gondolindrim: Remnants of the elves from Gondolin, they bear large hammers and are a force to be reckoned with.
Havens Shipwright: Elven marines equipped with a sword and shield and light mail.
Elven Lord: Great Elvish lords who have seen the light of the trees and are half in Middle Earth and half in the land of the Vala. There are few left west of the great seas but those who remain are truly terrible upon the field of battle.

    Silvan Elves:
Silvan Axeelf: Wielding powerful one handed axes of beautiful forgery these elves are able to pierce any armor.
Silvan Axelord: Carrying great and terrible two handed axes of the very best craft these great Silvan lords are said to be able to take down even trolls in a single stroke.
Lothlorien Wardens: Wardens of the sacred elven glades, they are cloaked in a gray cloak of excellent Elven craft, they also wield a fine bow.

    Dwarves:
Dwarven Archers: Dwarves are hardly the best marksmen, but they are still well able to pull a bow string.
Dwarven Crossbowmen: The standard crossbowmen and ranged unit of Dwarven forces.
Khazad Guard: Extremely heavily armored guards of Khazad-Dum, they wield a mattock and are extremely experienced and powerful warriors.
Dwarven Pathfinder: Dwarves who have taken to wandering about Middle-Earth only equipped with a leather tunic and leggings with some light mail covering the chest and a small axe.
Dwarven Cavalry: Riding their great war steeds (little ponies) they go into battle hacking and slashing at all in their path (friend and foe alike as they go completely out of control and writhe around in their saddles).
Blue Mountains Clansdwarf: Wielding formidable mattocks these are truly a force to be reckoned with.
Dwarves of the Iron-Hills: Dwarves wielding heavy mattocks covered in a long chain mail vest.

    Gondor:
Lamedon Levy: Men sent to war to fight the Dark Lord and other forces that might encroach upon their lands. They are equipped with short spears and should not expect to maintain a line.
Lamedon Infantry: Equipped with a cruel bill, these men can do great damage against their foes, but are vulnerable in a prolonged melee.
Blackroot Vale Archers: Elite archers who live upon the Blackroot river, these men are a match for any marksmen and can eliminate enemies with ease.
Belfalas Mariner: Light infantry in lamellar leather and equipped with light swords and small shields, they should not be expected to fight an enemy of any skill but are well suited to chasing down routers due to their light equipment.
Baygaurd of Belfalas: Professional troops who make sure no corsairs or other amphibious assaults are allowed to take place.
Ethir Fisherfolk: Wearing leather armor and equipped with short swords the men of the river are not very much suited for war.
Anfalas Huntsmen: Lightly equipped archers ill suited for war.
Anfalas Fishermen: Lightly equipped infantry ill suited for war.
Warrior of Pinath Gelin: Equipped in heavy mail over which they wear a green cloak, they bear long one handed swords and round shields.
Dol Amroth Man at Arms: Professional soldiers that march under the banner of Dol Amroth.

    Rohan:
Meduseld Warrior: Warrior of the kings own halls, these men are a force to be reckoned with.

    Eriador:
Bounder: Hobbits equipped in light mail bearing a short spear and small buckler.
Took Warriors: Tooks are among the bravest and largest of hobbits, these hobbits wield hunting bows and swords with more skill than the average hobbit.
Shirrifs: Shirrifs of the Shire, equipped in brightly coloured clothes with a feathered hat and wooden stick, these Hobbits aren't much good for fighting but can be a good force to leave in a town while your main forces are abroad.

    Dale:
No clue for now, if you have any good ideas PM me.

    Miscellaneous:
Giant Spiders: Giant spiders who roam the dark forests of the land, they are dangerous to small bands but prove to be only a nuisance to an organized force.
Wild-Men (or "wose"): Short, barrel chested men of the forests, these men are often thought to have mystical powers of one sort or another. While they have no allegiance to man they still prefer them over the cruel orcs of Mordor whom are their greatest enemy.
Hill Giants: Not sure what to say, I frankly think it was just the hobbits imagination...

These are, like I said, just ideas. Not even suggestions really, so devs don't take this as a pressure to make them.

If you can think of any for the factions I have yet to make lists for feel free to post some.

    >>>>UPDATED 09/11/09<<<<< More to come soon... Ideas for any faction are welcome at this point.

    HIGH ELVES
    Decedents of Feanor
Extremely powerful double-bladed swordsmen... descended from the house of Feanor, extremely small unit pool, (like the canons of the holy Schplecur in crusades version of MTWII), very good moral, good against monsters(such as trolls since the other Elven units suck against them).

hopefully you like it, but if not just ignore it!

I like your ideas so far JonSnow, I like the Boldogs the best! Hopefully your ideas can be implemented.

Dwarf Mountaineer: A dwarf mounted on a ram.

    From the movies:
Isengard: Uruk Hai Sappers, Put a bomb against enemy fortifications to blow them apart.

Balrogs are a bad idea, firstly Balrogs could not be commanded by mere Orcs, and OotMM are just that - orcs and goblins, secondly the mod really doesn't need that kind of units, it would open a door to all kinds of hell, dragons, ancient monsters, wizardry and what not.

I like the idea of High Elves having a special dual-wielding unit, or anything along the lines of a special and rare unit Gondolin Lancers (special pikemen or spearmen) or something... Didn't Gil-Galad have some kind of special spear? There's a lore-base right there as far as I'm concerned...

I'd like to see for OOTMM:

Goblin Crawlers/ Goblins of the deep/dark

First movie: the scene when the fellowship is chased by goblin until the balrog turns up.
The goblins are walking almost on hands and feet, they creep around, with various melee weapons and a little spiked armour.

    HIGH ELVES

    Gondolindrim,

The remnants of the warriors of Gondolin:

Elves of the house of Wrath
(Elves in Silver and Red wielding large war hammers, very limited unit pool, but are the Elven SHOCK TROOPS

    http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/House...ammer_of_Wrath

yet again just an idea to add to your awsome new unit ideas!

It would be cool, but not canonical, all the elves of said house perished before the end of the first age.

Elves are proving difficult, it's really hard to say what elves are still alive... perhaps Sailers of Lindon or something..? I'm not much of a third age elf expert...

Well many of the Sindarian elves were still around at that time under Cirdan, though they were not as strong or warlike as the Noldor they could still put up quite a fight....

Thats the problem with elves in this age, most of the good ones had already gone off to Valinor...though there were still pockets of Noldor here and there(like Gildor Inglorian)

Some of the Gondolindrim could still exist near the grey havens, (Mithlond) before they sailed to the west.

I like the ideas, I've had many of the same ideas myself, especially about more Dunland units, Dwarf archers, and slaves from Nurn (also think Nurn should be broken into 2 provinces). Nurn could give Mordor a cavalry unit, but it wouldn't be very good and would only be buildable deep within Mordor.

All the regional Gondor units are a bit OTT I think, their roster is already the largest in the game I think.

I still maintain that if Dwarves ever created an overland empire, they would create a cavalry unit, but I don't think any developers agree, and it would require a new skeleton/animation. So I think Dwarves should at least be able to build cavalry units in their settlements. Perhaps make it where the settlement has to have at least 25% northmen to build (so eventually you would lose access if the population of a city gets converted entirely to dwarves)

For the OoMM I think it would be cool to see a boulder throwing troll unit. They could be used as a highly mobile and powerful artillery, like cannon elephants in M2TW. They could be a bit weaker in melee than normal trolls, and have 1-2 less HP.

In all honesty I would love a lot of Gondor fiefdom units (though I doubt this many will ever happen), because in ROTK (the book at least) the problem Gondor faces with mustering an army is because they are all so seperated. Small unit pool AOR units scattered around would form a large portion of your army... it would be tough but incredibly satisfying.

    Dwarves:

Guardians of Gunabad:Defenders of the true home of the Dwarves.
(Wield small swords and shield, toughest dwarven unit, armour upgradable to mitrhil, small unit pool, AOR in Gunabad)

Blue Mountain Militia: Determined militia of Dwarves from the blue mountains
(Militia quality, uses small sword and buckler, recruitable in Thorin's Hall and Kibil Dum)

I like the ideas , but I think that Gaurdians of Gundabad should have a Mace instead...

I have a couple of my own,

Dwarven Rangers: An example of a Dwarf that is not innept with the Bow, but also armed with a mix of Swords and Axes. Dressed in a cloak, with a simple Pothelm...

Iron Hill's (AOR) Dwarf-At-Arms (): Poweful line infantry armed with a Heavy War-Mattock. They are mentioned in the books with this description...
