    Battle Replay?

    Hey Everyone,

I just did a custom battle and it was kinda cool - so I saved it so I could re-watch it.

When I played it back - it was totally different from the actual outcome. The battle played out very differently, and I could only watch as my troops got killed!

No biggie - but I was wondering if anyone else has seen this?

    Best,

    Jon

Battle replay IS NOT a recorded demo, it's not a flick from game. IT is real game replayed. Game records all orders u have issued and units try to follow them. But lot's of things appear random, like in a battle (the very first one, that u have played) a unit charges quickly and kills number of enemy soldiers, while in recorded battle unit charges but innefectively (infantry charge bug). That cause that not enough enemy soldiers gets killed, allowing them to recuperate after charge and fight back effectively, thus changing fate of battle.

Why is Aragorn so epic? Why did Boromir have to die?! Why is the movie so damn great? Is howard shore a genius?

I have a question I've been meaning to ask for awhile. In my installation of TATW somehow the display of city and unit names has been messed up. Instead of displaying the names of cities on the campaign map, it is displaying the names of units. Wierd, I know. I have a vanilla installation along with several modded copies of TATW installed. So, it's not a file I've edited as it is also affecting my vanilla install.

    1) Because he's aragorn

    2) Because it's epic

    3) Because Peter Jackson did a pretty good job

    4) Yes he is

    EDIT:

    I disagree most strongly!

    1) He is the heir of Isildur of the line of the Kings of Numenor.

    2) To highlight the difference of character between the outgoing and heroic Boromir and the more stoic and noble Faramir, and the effect of the Ring, and because the party needed to be split.

    3) It is not, it stinks, whatever greatness you may percieve it having is but a shadow of the books- which you should read instead. The only good PJ has done regarding the films was heightening the sales of the books, finding a good actor as Gollum, Gandalf and Aragorn, and filming on NZ.

    4) Who is Howard Shore? Einstein was a genius, Caivs Ivlivs Caesar was a genius, I honestly do not know who H.S. is.

No, because he changed the story- which was great- needlessly towards the lowest common denominator. Because he has the subtlety of a goat whereas Tolkien had that of a hummingbird; PJ literally hits you over the head with his points.

Others have had a different interpretation of ME than I, I do not dislike them. I do PJ for turning poetry into dross.

Ah that is who Howard Shore is. Yes, the music is great. Dunno about the genius part, I reserve that for Beethoven, Mozart, etc, but the music was great.

    The films are enjoyable but...

...I hate the "Xena Warrior Princess" fighting moments and the rubber looking Uruk-Hai.
...I hate the farting and burping Dwarf jokes
...I hate the scene when Aragorn looks towards Lorien from the East Gate and instead of seeing a Green vista I see a dull, grey view
...I hate the grey, muted colours of the whole trilogy in fact
...I hate the over use of slow motion
...I hate the camp leader of the Uruk-Hai in the Fotr - very camp portrayal and look. The mind boggles.
...I hate the much overrated slow-mo, doomed ride of Faramir (see below for the best Faramir fight)
...Moria is a mess and the Balrog a big Judeo-Christian piece of nonsense.

    Blah blah blah.

    But I love...

...Gandalf's fight with the Balrog as they plunge into the underdeeps
...I love Faramir's defence of Osgiliath (much more moving than the slow-mo charge)
    ...the entire Shelob sequence
    ...Gollum
    ...Gandalf
    ...Aragorn
    ...Frodo
...the Riders of Rohan fighting the Orcs and the Mumakil
...the design of the movie (overall) : sound and visual
    ...Battle of the Hornburg

    Blah blah blah

But for all this bull, I have to agree with Emperor of Hell, who sums it up neatly - PJ "did a pretty good job". Hard to disagree with that statement.

As Durnaug says, it could've been so much worse. The movies are good, and you don't have to care about every single point all the time. But this is hardly the place to discuss this

This thread is to ask questions about the mod people, not about arguing wether PJ did a good job... He did so the argument is closed too.

    Didn't work.

    I tried deleting:

    imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt.strings.bin
    shared.txt.strings.bin
    tooltips.txt.strings.bin
    strat.txt.strings.bin

    Here is a screenshot

    ....

How do you know this!? That fixed it for me. Ctrl+n toggles display of unit names and Ctrl+t toggles settlement names. I never knew this feature existed.

For your efforts I will give you this much rep:
