Fire by rank? or platoon fireing....

I've just started playing IS..... not sure if this is meant to happen but when i play in custom battle "in late era..." as my line shoot off their muskets, first off, they open out, as if the were going to fire in company volly, but what they do instead is all fire at the same time? This is puzzling? surely this can not be correct, as the first rank would fire then the second, and so fourth.... Fireing all at once would give some advantages but means all the regiment has to reload at the same time. I don't have any other mods running other than textures and mods that have been custom made to work with this mod, like mags realistic prussians ect....

This is the new "Mass Fire" that I put in a couple versions back. It replaces volley fire (where only the front rank fires). Basically everybody who can shoot in the unit will shoot. It doesn't shoot as many bullets per minute as rank fire or platoon fire, but it gives you lots of tactical options about timing your volleys to inflict maximum damage before a charge or to counter a charge.

It always annoyed me that only the front line fired prior to Fire-by-Rank and Platoon Firing. Is there friendly fire for the units in the front rows getting hit by those in the back?

There would be, but the men step to the sides to mean the first three ranks can fire easily

ah then that makes sence..... new to me but hey it seems to work.

It works so well that if you are using a nation with line infantry suited for melee action, or grenadiers instead of line infantry, you may want to forgo researching fire by rank and just march up, mass fire and charge. All down to your style of play now, instead of "gah, must have rank fire asap".

Can you set it so that you can mass fire, with Fire by Rank researched?

Unfortunately, not yet.

If it ever becomes possible, I want to make Rank Fire and Platoon Fire togglable buttons, like Fire and Advance. But I can't yet.
