Jesus christ, that one settlement in Britan that has Stonehendge. To anyone who's playing 361 campaign, capture it ASAP after it has fallen, I only now discovered it gives +4 loyalty bonus in all cities. God damn, I could raise taxes everywhere and it was a major boost to my morale, after losing some stacks to rebels (loyalty issue). Never trust Jovian and couple of Goth stacks. Funny, because one stack rebelled in Northeren Thrace, to support limes there. I should have figured it out little earlier, never send Goths to fight goths . Putting down some rebellions, lost couple of militias, no disbanding.

Good luck to all of you.

well i'm playing Julianus with 6tpy in 355. It was 358 and i as able to defeat several frankish, alemannic and celtic invasions and then i start a war with the roman rebels and constantius. Currently i as able to take Ravenna and Italy change is colors. But now i will need some time to secure Italy, rebuild my troops and keep a eye on the borders. The Franks and Alemanni are not giving up yet. However i'm trying to conquer Chnodomar to make a butter province between me and the alemanni. Also Chnodomarius and Chlodio are a pain the ... i wish i could take is heads off.

Stonehenge is rioting for me, on the second turn. It refuses to be happy.
SBH, I play roughly the same, but am building tons of Shrines to Mithra and I defend the crossings. I'm not good enough to win in the field against the Germans...

I doubt I am to be honest but river crossing battles are tedious and not fair to the AI, I feel.

I have learned one thing: Alemanni Berserkers are ludicrously overpowered. They touch a unit of cataphracts for a second and that unit loses 20 men immediately, routs, and is butchered within 5 seconds. They are practically impossible to beat with Romes best units.

That only kills 10 or 20 of them before all my guys run out of ammo... forcing me into close combat... whereupon half a dozen Auxilia Palatinae are raped. So I only win by autoresolve, and that still loses 500 precious men... please say the Gaelic Tribes don't have them too. Only my Quadi war is going well.

Of course the Gaelic Tribes have them and war dogs. Wait till you meet the more heavily armed Berserkers!!

Those Gaelic beserkers I think are even worse than those Alemmani ones...I had to surround them with numerous units. I killed them but only after having suffered some pretty heavy losses.

I've found Alemmani are a right pain to conquer however, they just keep coming at you...once I had cleared the area just north of the Alps, brought fire and sword to the towns only to find two more stacks reappear out of the forests...they had wandered off to the east for whatever reason and just only decided to return after some period of peace, right when I was at my most vulnerable. Had to scramble troops from most of Gaul to beat them off.

I have discovered they die almost instantaneously when charged by heavy cavalry. By charged, I mean when the cavalry really gets the 30 something charge bonus.

That may be the problem. I fight them at bridges and forests, it seems. And they are weirdly more dangerous in the latter.

3 turns in and Quadi, Allemanni and the Sassanids are pounding down my limes! Nisibis has been lost and some castra along the Danube - revolts in Gaul, Hispania, Libya, the Oriens and Africa. I have sacked an Allemanni settlement and will be turning a 10,000 profit next turn. All good fun!

Wow, what a blast. First of all very few CTDs even with more man in the unit available during battles. My Valentinian I (365 campaign, 6per turn) is going smoothly. Im into year 395 and already besieging Antioch. Barbarians pushed back across Rhine and Danube. No problems with settlements rebelling. Quadi berserkers are awesome. I had to learn firsthand getting my butt whipped as my 600 horesmen unit got annihilated by 150 of them. I guess its time to go back to drawing board and rethink the strategy. Both sons of Valentinian (Gracian and Valentinian II) got assassinated within 2 turns of each other. Both were protected by my own guys but somehow the villain slid by and got them both killed. Now emperor Valentinian has no heirs of his own direct bloodline and no Viagra pills coming to his aid. Luckily one of his daughters married some ambitious young man who racked up some glorious victories and is now worthy of succession. Now couple more years and i will eat Valens leftovers for breakfast and then its time for Persians.

That must have been quite a blow... Talk about the need for a "Broken Spirit" trait on behalf of the father. You got any suspects?

I've been playing with Procopius. I had allied myself with the Sassanids and we had been hitting the ERE from two sides. I was marching against Antioch and captured it. Suddenly, the Sassanids break the alliance and attack Antioch in the next turn. Then I managed to become allies with the WRE and the ERE. So the Roman Empire is currently divided in some sort of Triarchy.

Yes Joar, there were 2 assassins in the area, Procopian and Quadi. Both were disposed of quickly. Procopian empire is no more while punitive action will be taken against Quadi in near future. Right now im diverting resources to finish of Valens.

And to add i never had that happen before in any IB mod where i lost both heirs within 2 turns to assassins. I cant even remember if i lost one. Bodyguard security was rather outstanding.

Just wait - when your situation becomes dire, or you actually start having success in the east, you'll get backstabbed. You shouldn't ally with any factions directly bordering you, as they will sooner or later betray you. I'd say sooner.

In fact they haven't bothered me.
The WRE have received considerable damage from the Quadi and the ERE has been also annihilated by the Sassanids. So I stayed alone in the Middle East, with a badly damaged stack of legio palatinae units and the Sassanids are sending 3 full stacks of cataphracts against me each turn. I have found it impossible to cope up with them so I just stopped playing this campaign.

I'm not a bad player, if you give me the WRE I can do miracles but against the Sassanid Empire I'm really unable to defeat them.
