Thread: Garrison Script

    Default Garrison Script

Ok, so i am playing as the silvans on vh/vh and have managed to liberate all of mirkwood from the menace of dol guldur (mordor) but while i was focusing on the south the OOMM steamrolled the region. After a number of long sieges i managed to push them back from my territory except for the incessant raiding parties, i have broken through beorns halls and slain the orc faction heir, and pushed their armies all the way up against the walls of the misty mountains and the grey mountains to the north.

Upon my entrance to the misty mountains via a spy moria was defended by only 3 orc units, seeing my opportunity i launched a rather costly invasion attempt and once i layed siege the city suddenly became full of orcs including the high chieftan himself, by the next turn i was completely overrun and trying to fight my way to the edge of the map for a successful retreat. where in middle earth did those bloody orcs just randomly pop up in moria from? As i have learned thanks to the following posts this is the garrison script, i have noticed others seeing the same Events. So i guess here is the question.. does the garrison script need to be nerfed? I can understand a militia army and some professionals being instantly drafted by the town in a time of need but a legend army with elites just showing up against you that you cannot beat and have no move points to retreat from seems rather odd.

Say hello to the garrison script, my friend. As far as I know it is only for the capitals.

I can't believe so many people are oblivious to the garrison script.

lol.. well i am certainly not oblivous to it now! and moria is not the capital at the minute, it is goblin town to the north... so what exactly activates the garrison script? I have done no cheating?

It's the garrison script, fooled me too. Although it isn't just capitols, It happened to me twice besieging Foldburg as Isengard. I still think that they should not get the units afterward, almost a stack of very good units. (at least for Rohan).

Then why did i experiance it when there capital was moved to Goblin town?

And why did i experiance it in both Minas Morgul and Rhovanion (It was a rebel territory god damn!)

haha, does make the game more challenging, gave mordor a nice big army when i was makin quick progress in the begining. My gondor militia didnt stand a chance against there army as it had 2 battle trolls, so i decided to halt my advance and i havnt seen where theyve moved there grande force yet

Just besieging a town or castle activates it. It's to counter the poor AI only leaving one or two units in a settlement.

Huh, never saw or heard of it happening in a rebel territory.

hmm.. im not sure what to think about that.. i do like the idea of a grand challenge, but i wasnt ready or able to invest a full army of elves (or more) into a siege at moria with well trained heavily armoured orcs and trolls as i was firefighting raiding parties all around langwell (near mt gundabad). Oh well, lol i was just so glad to think i had duped the orcs into focusing on the north and had the units that i could take moria and the mountain fort, ill be expecting it this time.. Ok last question.. does this script make them show up anywhere? for example village+ and wooden castle+ or do they only show up at cities of a certain size?

i think it is quite cool, that moria gets support
    when beeing attacked.
if you think about it, it is obvious, why this is
happening. moria is a passage through the misty
mountains - not just a settlement.
so in a case of a siege, orc from all under the
misty mountains gathe in moria to defend it.
(and if you query the way of this support - they
just come to the underground passages - like in
    the movies indeed.)

Yes, but in one turn? That is a rather hasty response considering it took 3 turns for me to get my army there? I am not saying i dont like the idea of an epic brawl at moria but why would they suddently show up with completely decked out units in early game within the same turn i attacked and then obliterate me next turn? Should the script be altered so that not all of the units are so legendary, so i atleast have a chance of victory.. because i barely cut my way out of that battle with celeborn and haldir intact before i could successfully make my retreat to lorien.

you didn't really expect to face an army of orcs that you outnumbered?! You think this is an easy game? The garrison script supports all the AI factions, had to besiege Pelargia 3 times! after the first two times my general was assassinated and the crusade failed (playing Harad) But I finally took the damn place, huzzah! The War of the Ring was written as a titanic clash between good and evil, so no matter who you play as it shouldn't be a steamroll frenzy.
The Duke of Dunwich and surrounding fiefdom

For any who are interested by my FF on occurrences in Rhun and beyond; I have begun a new project (not because the old one is finished, just opening more room for ideas) about one of the minor characters, Rankal. It is in the Third Age AAR index and here is the link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=376994

hey.. sir.. i am certainly not steamrolling anything on vh/vh.. and only on 5 occasions (3 of which were skirmishes did i outnumber my opponents) i am just wondering if enemy units should be able to show up so fast to a city they left poorly defended? I have no problem with the script but a full well trained and armed army out of nowhere shouldnt happen.. i have no problem with the script creating a milita draft and some other high end units and saying they came FROM THE CITY but a Legend Army is something entirely different.

The AI is too dumb to defend it's settlements properly, garrison scripts are a necessary evil.

again.. may i point out i am fine with the script.. you are right, it is very necessary! But should it be nerfed a little bit? Its somewhat unfair to march a half stack of units up against 3 and then suddenly come face to face with an unbeatable army and no move points.

hmm.. lets get this renamed to a more proper title like "garrison script".

They should not be able to keep the garrison too, I mean I'm fine with attacking them, but afterward if I lose, they have an entire free half stack of very good units. Perhaps they can fix that but probably not.
