Battle I did recently on MOS that pits an army of silvan heavy infantry against an invading dwarvish force. Old hatreds die hard, it would seem...
Not wanting to needlessly throw away the lives of the soldiers under his command, the elven commander makes the prudent, if inglorious decision to form up is troops in a defensive position on the bank opposite the ewarven infantry. He intends to use the superior range of his archer companies to force the Dwarves to make the perilous river crossing under constant arrow fire. This will tire out the heavily armoured Dwarves, as well as bleed them of their numbers.
He forms up 6 heavy spear companies in a massive shieldwall on the natural bottleneck leading from water to their side of the river.
Instead of retiring to find terrain more to their advantage, the overconfident dwarf commander takes the bait and sends his men forward to smash down the elven shieldwall. Thousands of Dwarf warriors surge toward their ancient enemies in a tide of metal and fury.
The elven bowmen make them pay for their hubris.
The Dwarves make it to the elven half of the river, but their forces are in disarray. The Dwarf commander finds himself isolated from the rest of his forces with only a small bodyguard to protect him.
Seeing an opportunity to cut off the head of the snake, the elven commander orders his spearmen to charge. Seeing their general in danger, the bulk of the dwarven infantry rush to his defense.
Soon the bank becomes a bloody morass as both sides commit heavily.
It becomes clear quickly that the Dwarves, already exhausted by their rush through waist deep water, are losing ground and fast. The Elves relentlessly press their advantage, hurling the invaders back into the river.
A small group of 150 Dwarves rally and manage to keep their footing on the riverbank. The elven right flank is driven back with great loss.
