when i load a custom battle it either crashes to start or it loads and does the same thing can you guys tell what the problem is

Probably some problem with the install. I would need to know which version you have installed and where is the RG folder placed.

Of course. But when you ran the installer you directed it to a directory (probably C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War), where a folder named RG eas created.

What we need to know is:
1.- If there is a folder named RG inside that directory, in the same place as the RTW.exe file. Or it is placed in another folder, which would explain your crash.
2.- If you placed the RG folder correctly, but your RTW game was modified by another mod, like Roma Surrectum, that does not create a separate folder, but overwrites the content of the original game. Therefore making your install incompatible with other mods.

so how would i fix it if RG is in RTW.exe and it still crashes to the desktop
