17th (Leicestershire) Regiment of Foot
On the morning of January 3rd, 1777, the 17th of Foot, about 250 strong, commanded by Colonel Mawhood, was marching from Princetown to Trenton, and encountered a large force of the American Army some 3,000 strong under the personal command of General George Washington. The encounter took place on a misty dawn, and was quite unexpected by both sides. Reckless of the odds against them, the little force of British soldiers at once attacked, drove the leading troops of the enemy through and orchard, charged and captured a battery of guns, and then found themselves surrounded by the whole force of the enemy. Still unbeaten, the 17th, with drums beating and bayonets gleaming, broke their way out of the circle of their enemies and carried their colours to safety.

The Queens Rangers
Wikipedia :
The Queen's Rangers was a military unit who fought on the Loyalist side during the American War of Independence. After the war they moved to Nova Scotia and disbanded, but were reformed again in Upper Canada before disbanding again, in 1802, just prior to the War of 1812.
Formed by Robert Rogers (of Roger's Rangers fame)
At the outbreak of the American Revolution at Lexington and Concord, former Rangers were among the Minutemen firing at the British. After these events, Robert Rogers offered his help to the commander of the Colonial Army, George Washington. Washington refused, fearing that Rogers was a spy because Rogers had just returned from a long stay in England. Rogers was infuriated by this and did indeed join the British--forming the Queen's Rangers (1776) and later the King's Rangers

1st Rhode Island Regiment
From Wikipedia :
The 1st Rhode Island Regiment was a Continental Army regiment from Rhode Island during the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783). Like most regiments of the Continental Army, the unit went through several incarnations and name changes. It became well-known as the "Black Regiment" because, for a time, it had several companies of African American soldiers. It is regarded as the first African-American military regiment.

17th Light Dragoons
From http://www.srcalifornia.com/uniforms/uindex.htm :
The excellence of this Regiment made it the first selected cavalry corps to be sent to America. It left Ireland in 1775, and landed in Boston just before the Battle of Bunker Hill.
A small party joined the reinforcements in that fight, and we find that detachments were present in most of the important engagements throughout the war.
*(In later years the 17th were issued with lances and are best remembered for being part of the Charge of the Light Brigade)

1st Bn Royal Highland Emigrants
From American Loyalist Troops 1775-84 :
The 1st Royal Highland Emigrants were raised among Scotish emigrants settled in the American colonies & veterans of the 78th (Fraser's) Highlanders (disbanded in 1763) .

In early December the Americans laid siege to the city. The two-pronged American assault during a snowstorm on the night of the 31st was decisively repuled killing the American commander, Gen Richard Montgomery along with hundreds of his men.
The siege lasted until May 6 when British ships arrived & the Americans withdrew.

16th Dismounted Dragoons
From : http://www.lobsterback.org/index.html
Colonel Harcourt, the commanding officer of the 16th while John Burgoyne was a general in the Colonies, commanded a body of dismounted dragoons to act in conjunction with the mounted troops of the regiment. He required that they be well equipped, independent thinkers who could adapt to the difficult situations to be found in the colonies.
Hinde, in the Discipline of the Light Horse, states that the dismounted troopers were to be equipped as light infantry and be able to fight as an independent force in support of the mounted squadrons of the 16th LD as well as being able to act independently.
The current recreated troop of the 16th is based on the premise of this dismounted portion of the Regiment.
