Thread: Historically Accurate German faction flags and uniforms

  1. #1

Default Historically Accurate German faction flags and uniforms

I have become uniform skinner for Regalia of Nations. Please check it out!

    Update: v.1.1 (24/04/09)

FIX: Sorry about the bavarian grenadiers, I forgot to add to the mod, that I switched bavaria to the "austria_group", because I felt the units were more suitable. So now bavaria has grenadiers with bearskin hats (so the uniform below will apply). The download at the bottom will have this included.(25/04/09)

New Bavarian flag: (turns out the flag in the game was correct but not the actual state flag. Thanks to major_payne for making me aware of this.)
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Since Bavaria became an elector state in 1623, this became their flag and remained so until 1805 when it became a kingdom.

    UNIFORMS:

    ------------------------------------------Grenadiers-----------------------------------------------
    Bavaria:
Grenadier des Leibregiments (Grenadier of the first regiment)
(this uniform was introduced to the regiment in 1760)
    source: http://www.grosser-generalstab.de/sturm/img/stm1_122.jpg
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Westphalia:
Grenadiere des Leibregiments Kurköln (Grenadiers of the first regiment of the Electorate of Cologne)
    source:http://www.grosser-generalstab.de/sturm/img/stm1_220.jpg
    http://www.figuren-modellbau.de/kurkoeln-leib-regiment-1757.html
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    ------------------------------------------Cuirassiers-----------------------------------------------
    Bavaria:
Kürassierregiment Prinz Taxis (Cuirassuer-Regiment of Prince Taxis)
    source:http://www.grosser-generalstab.de/sturm/img/stm1_127.jpg
    http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/2098/germanyh.jpg (#2)
Its the closest I could make it.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Saxony:
Kürassier-Regiment Kurfürst (Cuirassier-Regiment of the Elector)
(this uniform is actually from 1785, not from the 7 years war period)
    source:http://www.grosser-generalstab.de/tafeln/knoe06/knoe06_58.html
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    -----------------------------------Regiment of Horse-----------------------------------------------
I added this unit to the Westphalian unit roster, just for this.

    Westphalia:
Kurpfälzisches Reiter-Regiment Prinz Friedrich Michael von Zweibrücken (Electoral Palatinate Horse-Regiment of Prince Frederik Micheal of Zweibrücken)
    source: http://www.figuren-modellbau.de/reic...ecken-1757.jpg
    http://www.grosser-generalstab.de/st...g/stm1_222.jpg
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    ------------------------------------------Guards---------------------------------------------------
This is a correction of a mistake I made regarding the saxony line infantry. The uniform I gave them was actually that of a guard regiment, hence "Garde" which means guards in german.
    so

    Saxony:
Regiment 1. Garde (1st Regiment of Guards)
    source:http://www.grosser-generalstab.de/sturm/img/stm1_134.jpg
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    ------------------------------------------Line Infantry---------------------------------------------
    heres the updated uniform.

    Saxony:
Infanterie-Regiment von Friesen (Infantry-Regiment of Frisia)

I have also fixed the jacketfolds on the hannoverian line-infantry, because they looked slightly odd, and also edited some of the normal maps on some of the units where it was annoying.
Also I would like to know about the moustaches I gave some of the units. Im just not sure about them. Should I keep them?
Also any other recommendations would be helpful.

Installation: dowload the german_factions_patch.pack file into the "Steam\steamapps\common\empire total war\data" folder. Run the game as you normally would and the changes should be there. It should work with any mod that does not have a retexture of any flag retextures.

Download v.1.1 fixed here: (NEW: 25/04/09)

    Change Log:

    version 1.0
Eventhough the flags in the game are historically correct, they are flags from after or during the Napoleonic occupation of Germany. Since the the campaign only goes up to 1799, I decided to redo the flags and the uniforms to make them correct for the Seven Years War period (mid-18th century)
here's what I have done sofar:

    Westphalian and Württemberg flags:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

source: Westphalia: (I am not sure about the rest of the flag, but the coat-of-arms is that of the Duchy of Westphalia, which was a territory belonging to the electorate of Cologne) http://www.arnsberg.de/archiv/wappen.php
    Württemberg: http://www.worldstatesmen.org/de_wurcent.gif
    http://www.worldstatesmen.org/German_States4.html

    Prussia and Saxony:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

source: Prussia: (this version of the flag was introduced around 1750)
    http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flagge_Preu%C3%9Fens
    Saxony: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Fl...ral_Saxony.svg
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electorate_of_Saxony

The Hannoverian, Bavarian and Austrian Flags are already correct for that time period.

    Uniforms:
so far I have only done the line infantry for each. I am planning on redoing the grenadiers, cuirassiers, hussars and mabye the artillery, generals, officers and drummers.

    Bavaria:
Infaterie Regiment Minucci (Infantry Regiment Minucci)

For Württemberg units I recommend Nimrod's Württemberg retexture: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=240611

For Prussian units I recommend either Magnus72's realistic Prussian uniforms: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=239263
    or
    Megasalexandros's Prussian Mod:

Can someone who's got these reupp them to somewhere like sharebee.com (which rehosts them at 4 other servers) so we can download them? They look great, but I can't get them to d/l - it always says "maximum spots filled"

Im really sorry about this. Im gonna try and upload it to megaupload, apparently this seems like the best place to upload files.
Also Ive changed the colors of the uniforms slightly because i realised they were slightly off. For example the bavarian uniforms were a bit too dark, and the westphalian way to light, also the hannoverian pants are still too light yellow, not beigish like in the picture. So that will have been updated.

To play Bavaria in Custom Battle, you need to install Julius Isidrus' mod "Custom Battle - All Faction Unlocker". Don't know where Hessen is.
