Mid to low on a GeForce 9600 maybe. But with a Radeon, he won't be able to run it at all. It'a a very dated mid-range card. When Rome came out, I had a 9800pro and it could run the game on mid to high. As for the 9600, it's likely having only 128 MB of GRam, and maybe not even shader 2.0. Also, if the rest of his system is similar, I strongly recommend an upgrade.

I set AA to none in game and then set CCC to game controled and the battles load up with no problems.
I have tried every driver set from 8.5 to the latest set. This make the battles ugly as sin with all the jaggys.
There is a problem currently with setting aa and af in the control panel and playing etw with catalyst drivers, at least with some people. You're just going to have to set them in game for now and leave your drivers at use application settings. It runs fine if you do this.

Yes, but do not expect to run it on high or ultra.

ive had a display issue with ATI.. where random colored shapes are everywhere on the screen except the HUD during the campaign map and battles. ive read stuff about some older drivers working, but i have not gotten any of them to work
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 3200 integrated graphics card
    i have tried 6 drivers, including 8.11, 8.12, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3, and 9.4, all of them have same problem

heres a picture of the problem

EDIT: oh, and the demo worked perfectly fine for me.. im not sure what messed it up

EDIT 2: fixed it by uninstalling drivers and reinstalling the display and audio drivers and not Catalyst Control center, then i went to options ingame and put it on pixel shader 2, and it worked.

I am considering getting a new PC with a single HD4890. Will I be able to run it on Ultra 1680x1050?

ATI Catalyst 9.5 has been released, if you are experiencing issues with Empire Total War and have an ATI graphics card, you should try to see if this newly released driver resolves your issues. These drivers support the HD2000 series and newer.

Catalyst 9.5 has been released for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. The changes include performance improvements in Unigine and Battleforge, a WHQL-certified driver for Windows 7, ATI Stream improvements, and a number of bug fixes.

Just a note, for anyone with higher end systems but still a little confused as to not so smooth gameplay, go into CCC and set your AA and AS to 'use same settings as application' this really helped things for me

I'm having trouble with buildings on the battle map. They have a lot of black dots on them that move whenever I roll the camera, and they're confined to the buildings. I'm on an ATI Radeon 4870HD 1GB and these are my driver settings:

    Driver Packaging Version 8.612-090428a-080268C-ATI
    Catalyst™ Version 09.5

    Anyone else having such issues?

You have to disable "Adaptive Anti Aliasing" in CCC. Note that regular AA is fine, only AAA displays black dots. If you still wish to smoothen Alpha textures (like trees and grass) your only other option is to use Narrow or Wide tent filters, I would recommend Narrow tent.

when i try to update the drivers for my dual 4800's, it just updates the drivers from 8.5 to 8.6, regardless of which driver i've downloaded.... a few days later it begins to restart randomly. any solution to that?
