Agreed - and while that can be adjusted by having it go less far down the leg or some other such solution, then you're trading off protection and you still haven't actually solved it for real. Protecting body parts meant to move (which is more or less all of them) is really not an easy engineering question, particularly when you're working with rigid materials like cast bronze, and doubly so when you don't have the facility to cheaply and reliably make multiple parts that fit together well and thus enable more complex articulations.
Well that's why,at least greaves used with plate armor, fit so thighly that they can't rub on the ankle. But those were tailored to the user. That's part of the properly fitting I was alluding to. Though it won't change the fact that it's a rigid, thin piece of metal rubbing against your ankle/instep.
I guess the non elite African late Libyans/Liby-Phoenicians are Libyan Heavy Spearmen (thorakitai) and Liby-Phoenician Heavy Infantry + Elite Liby-Phoenician Infantry?
They're just late versions of the Libyan Spearmen and Liby-Phoenician Hoplites, with better armour.
Lots of updates coming in on the Twitter feed, including reworked barbarian large camps by xHolyCrusader, new shields by Gustave and more work on the Pedites Extraordinarii by Nazgool, but one very interesting development I thought I'd share here...
Credits for these go to justme and Sylon.

I tend to edit my posts once or several times after writing and uploading them. Please keep this in mind when reading a recent post of mine. Also, should someone, for some unimaginable reason, wish to rep me, please add your username in the process, so I can at least know whom to be grateful towards.
My thanks in advance.
Yes, the Thraikioi Aichmetai are spearmen. Those are the two levy units on the Thraikian roster - and now the Getai have some native slingers, and garrison spearmen to draw upon.
Awesome!!!!
Thracians at last!!!
Will we see thracian skirmishers too?

In light of this supreme sacrifice that the EB team has made, in the sight of all the gods and our holy father Jupiter, I bestow upon thee the Lance of Slash, which doth make sweet and miraculous sound, blessing those who listen with a divine tapestry of notes that has the power to heal lepers and cure blindness. Rejoice! For you are now saved.
Some kind of lusitanian/iberian elite infantry, maybe the EB2 equivalent of the Ambakaro? Yes please *_*If you know your archaeology, you will be able to tell us what unit Sylon is working on for the upcoming release: http://t.co/4GSC8bXXyv

I'm wondering if Carthage will get a pike unit. In Rome 2 they get a pike unit, and in EB1 they get an elite pike unit but no regular pike unit.
Regular pikemen, no, besides mercenaries. And note, I added mercenary phalanxes to Carthage's mercenary pool for that reason.
They have a planned pike unit, which is comprised of veteran Greek mercenaries, which replaces EB1's notion of an "elite pikeman". Might not make it into the autumn release, but it's relatively straightforward to make.
Congratz on celtic horse unit featured at EBII twitter. The textures and clothing looks awesome!
edit: What unit will that be?
No, the horse is the new bit. The unit is the Donno Eporedoi (Gallic Noble Cavalry), which is already in the public build. They were just using Iberian horses previously.
I guess I didn't notice how awesome it was when I was running EBII with integrated low quality graphics. Still, that's a damn fine horse my friend well done
