note the similarity between Empire's European regions and that of M2TW:

except as I learned when I used to mod M2TW the white and black dots above represent ports and settlements respectively however this system has been removed in Empire.

Bump. Perhaps someone can figure this out?

CA said in an interview that they redesigned the system and it is now much more powerful. They mentioned having to write their own editor, which will of course be released to the community.

So I suppose we will wait? I'm sure it's possible to do it now, just difficult.

I wouldn't hold my breath on a strat map editor being released to the community. We've been begging for one since Rome and CA never even pulled a hair over it.

Well it used to be fairly easy to do, it wasn't really necessary. They probably didn't have an in-house editor anyway.

But now it's apparently quite complex, and they built their own editor for the map. They might as well release it, they probably just need to cut out some of the more powerful features (stuff that will break the game most easily) and streamline/simplify it before releasing it.

I want to use it to split some islands from their regions in the Mediterranean, like Siciliy, Crete, Cyprus and the Balearics.

I'm just saying, knowing CA's history on providing modding tools, don't be surprised if you're still toying directly with regions.esf in 2 years.

So conclusion is that: In this moment nobody knows how to add new regions?

Well people do, but it is a case of time and effort. It will take a big effort to make a new region because you will have to use some ol' fashioned linear algebra. (Currently the ESF editor does not display binary data so you can't in the esf editor) In each area/face/ sections of vertex data is a binary data container holds an array of vertices to signify that area of the region. You would have to add new region to a theater create a new block for the vertex_data and probably a few more things, but that is the basics.

I think it would be a fun project to write a very basic editor for regions.esf

I happen to know a nice amount of Linear Algebra, I learned it for an extra curriculum Project.

Is there any tutorials out there on how to make new regions? I did not find it in the list of tutorials.

I don't think there will ever be one. Either a tool will be made by someone to do it or CA will release a tool. It really is not feasible to add a new region by hand.

You will be splitting hairs trying to get CA to do anything as far a editer releases.
