    Default [building preview] - 3D Taq-i Kisra

    Additional Infos

    Dear Gamer,

We proudly present our second official building preview. Today it is one of the most famous Sassanian building.

    The Taq-i Kisra

The Taq-i Kisra (Persian طاق كسرى , meaning Iwan of Khosrau) is a Persian monument in Al-Mada'in which is the only visible remaining structure of the ancient city of Ctesiphon. It is near the modern town of Salman Pak, Iraq.
The arch was part of the imperial palace complex. The Throne room—presumably under or behind the arch—was more than 30 m (110 ft) high and covered an area 24 m (80 ft) wide by 48 m (160 ft) long. It was the largest vault ever constructed in Persia. The inverse catenary arch was built without centring.
The Taq-i Kisra is now all that remains above ground of a city that was, for seven centuries, the main capital of the successor dynasties of the Seleucids, Parthians and Sassanids of Persia. The structure left today was the main portico of the audience hall of the Sassanids who maintained the same site chosen by the Parthians and for the same reason, namely proximity to the Roman Empire whose expansionist aims could be better contained at the point of contact.

    internal Infos

This phantastic 3D model was made (including the textures!) by
    Wundai
    - exclusively for AoD2 -

Furthermore we started to code customized settlement plans. That means a city like Ctesiphon grows in its own way, unlike the normal cities.
This system will also be used for other cities in the AoD2-world.

    More building-previews will follow soon
    be prepared

    Your AoD2-team

    The Taq-i Kisra

the building today is nothing more than a ruin. However, even this ruin gives us an impression about the cultural degree of the Sassanids. Furthermore it shows the ability of the Sassanid empire to build such monuments.

Little is known about the real structure of the Taq-i Kisra. In general only a layout/ground plan exists. That gave us the chance to speculate, to guess and to use our imagination.
Wundai used patterns and real existing models of Sassanian tower, walls and architecture to finish that buidling.

ingame screenshots of the tactical view

some changes of model and/or texture are possible

After those additions this game will end up as a playable cyclopedia!
TGC in order to continue its development seak one or more desicated scripters to put our campaign scripts mess to an order plus to create new events and create the finall missing factions recruitment system. In return TGC will give permision to those that will help to use its material stepe by step. The result will be a fully released TGC plus many mods that will benefit TGC's material.
Despite the mod is dead does not mean that anyone can use its material
    read this to avoid misunderstandings.

IWTE tool master and world txt one like this, needed inorder to release TGC 1.0 official to help TWC to survive.
Adding MARKA HORSES in your mod and create new varietions of them. Tutorial RESTORED.

Woooooooooooooow,I really can't believe my eyes this project is getting great.. Wundai you deserve a french kiss from lindsey lohan for making Taq kisra lol..
but I have few things to say about the building in the preview :
1- Taq i kisra was painted in white color
2- it was larger so I suggest wundai you add extra 2 towers like those

thanx for the input, jermagon, we try to use all informations for AoD2.

    1st
do you have a source concerning the white colour? You write it was painted in white colour. Very interesting. I would like to know where this info is coming from.

    2nd
if you compare the arch - or vault - with the citizens walking through the city then you will see that the building has a very good size. Of course we could enlarge the vault by 2 or 3 meters. However, we have our limits concerning the space in the city.

    3rd
...we are really thankful for all historical 3D reconstructions and plates in general for the Taq-i Kisra - based on facts.

well I can't confirm that the original color was white, but I saw a reconsructed picture of the monument and it was painted in white color. I also saw this picture http://www.oberlin.edu/art/Iraq/Iraq-030.JPG

yes your're right, but it would be cool if you gave the monument it's own perimeter cuz from what I have seen from the pics the building does exist very close from the citizens dwellings ..
I also suggest you add some cool persian statues and a hauge fluttering purple banner on the top of the structure

I'm sure something can be done
The area in front of the building has a lot of space for trees, banners and statues.

I think white Taq-i Kisra wouldnt be nice among all "yellow" buildings and I think we shouldnt change anything about it.Maybe If Woundai want to add one or two more towers...

    Exactly karlost.
It wouldn't match all the other buildings, beside that: all discussions about colours are speculative.

This, and even if it was painted white it would likely have bleached to a yellowish colour in the sun. Great preview

    @Jermagon
-No white please, reasons are stated by Karlo.

-I like the banner idea Jermagon, giving it a more Sassanid feel.

-As for statues, well if Pomps wants to continue with them ok, but I can't make them, my modeling experience doesn't go that far We could take some of the vanilla game.

-Towers next to it? I don't really like that since I already made these beside the Taq-i Kisra:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

On the left of the building these, large rectangular stones with long small black windows in them, sry for the description, my english fails me here
But what I'm trying to say is that towers would direct attention away from them, or even fill up their spot, and this is just such a nice thing of Sassanid Architecture.

@Ramashan, thanks for the support mate
