Thread: Byzantine Empire Re-emerges

  1. #1

    Default Byzantine Empire Re-emerges

On the request of a fellow member (helmersen) i am going to modify the Ottoman Empire's Republic flag to that of the Byzantine Empire.

It is in no way historical correct, but mearly to add it on his request, maybe other would be interrested so i will be posting the mod here on the forum

Here is the flag i'm going to mainly use

HEY! I just thought of something crazy, well you gave me the thought...

A fantasy mod (with a certain realistic aspect), that some gangbanger in Italy at the time wants to remake the old Roman glory, so he rises up and takes power and trains modern day (imperial era) legionaries with guns.

That would be pretty cool, plus it wouldn't be that difficult seeing as you would only be making one faction and several distinct units for it, plus events.

The idea goes to helmersen, i'm mearly making it happen

If we we're to change the Italian States maybe to a rising Roman faction, it would require we know how to script the Revolution, such as a name change and so fourth.

No I meant more like from the beginning, it's just a fiction mod.

So it starts out with a tough veteran army with a general under the name of so and so in Italy with one province, then an event that you read saying, "An Italian Political Activist has marched through the streets of Rome and literally taken control in the manner of imitating Julius Caesar... he appears to have wild ambitions and his men have been trained in a fashion unknown to modern Europeans. Should he gain the support of all Italians one can only imagine how powerful he may become."

Look up at the founding and ending of the Roman Republic in the 19th century. We can recreate it during the 18th century.

I guess i could retexture Greece's flag and the Italian states maybe..

Also i can make the Greece faction playable, through giving it a region.

Greece for the East Roman Empire and Italian States for the West

The Byzantine Republic? Although technically, the name Byzantines was never used by the Eastern Romans.

The Romaíoi (Greek name for Roman) republic/empire for the east and the Romano(Italian name for Roman).

This has a subtle meaning behind it, in the sense that we have a Roman empire/republic located in Greece and Italy respectively.

Hell, we can even offer a bonus mission to reunite the two capital of the Roman empire under one Roman state.

    Thank you very much, Cainrae!

@Axe-Battler: Yes, I have also been thinking about this. I dont we should use the flag higher up on the page though, we should use the old eagle instead, to symbolize that the Roman Soul still lives in the hearts of the Italian people! (This is for the western empire)

Just a side note, we should NOT paint the Romans as people wearing the LS and carrying musket at the same time. Reason, mainly due to the fact that anyone who even bothered to read up about the 4th and 5th century in detail would know that the Romans are flexible in regards to armours and weapons.

How should we design the uniforms of the Romans needs to be discussed in extreme detail. We need to find out the cultural mentality of people in Greece and Italy, and how would they design uniforms for their refounded Roman Empire/republic.

For cavalry? Possible, but letting line infantry wear armour would be impractical and only harms the Romans in the long run.

Sounds like a nice idea actually. Given so many other nations sought to legitimise their administrations through the Roman heritage, it would be great to see an Italian faction doing just that. It wouldn't actually be all that hard I imagine actually. Simply mod the Italian States to make themselves the "Roman Republic" when there is a popular revolution - so change the flag, some new units maybe - Line Infantry become Legionaires of the Line? - and from then on it's up to the player to choose whether the revival succeeds or not Look to the 19th Century Attempted Roman Republic for inspiration. Though it didn't succeed, the professed goal was a revival attempt of sorts

It's not a historical idea, but it is realistic

As for the Byzantines, I think it is better to just perhaps keep it as a Greek revolt - does the Istanbul province revolt to become Greek? Never had it have a national revolt yet, so I wouldn't know. But that's just my opinion

Well, we might want to see a revived eastern roman empire as opposed to a Greek state. After all, the Roman state seems more multi-cultural and Multi-ethnic than a Greek state. Given the fact that there are disagreement between the Greek rebellion over the difference of calling themselves Greece, or calling themselves as Romans.
