Default [RELEASE] Unit Addon for SPQR 7 [UPDATE 151009]

    Hello,

Added some units successfully to SPQR, created by ferres, Hannibal Smith, King Louise Assurbanipal and Varangian & Neo, some unit cards by Conquistador. Discussed with LT that it could add some nice unit variety suitable for SPQR. Below some examples of the units:

1 & 2) Eastern Sword Auxilia and Eastern Spear Auxilia (by Ferres)
Recruitable: In cities in the East and in Africa, replacing the original SPQR spear and sword auxilia there (pre & post Marian)
    Ownership: Romans Julii
Stats: Similar to SPQR sword and spear auxilia, slightly better in desert, slightly worse in snow

    Ownership: Romans Julii
Stats: Similar to SPQR late cavalry auxilia

    An overview of this addon:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...17#post5309317

EDIT: What have changed since the extended beta:

    - ALL unit stats have been updated, balanced and finetuned. Now it really makes a difference which units are used in different regions.

    - 3 new units added, two taken out (see last unit presentation post). All in all there are 30 new extra units for Rome coming with this addon.

    - Added officers and standard bearers to several units

    - Some merc units also added to other factions

    - Most text descriptions for the units have been updated (thanks a lot to Hesus de Bodemloze for help with gallic and germanic units)

    - Some other bugfixes and small changes

    - Adjustments impacting AI army composition (LT's idea)

    - and also some hidden surprises that I will not disclose now but let the player discover himself

EDIT: Unit Addon [VERSION 1.2] is now released. For download follow the links below:

    Install right over previous installation.

    Changes:
    - One unit, Etolia Cavalry (mercenaries in Greece) has been taken out due to graphical issues. Your save game should be fine unless you have already recruited this unit. If so, disband the unit before installing this Unit Addon version 1.2.
    - Further unit balancing (mass)
    - Script fixes
    - Various graphical fixes

Changes included in patch 1.1 included:
    - Legate Ancillaries effects adjusted
    - AI superpower fix adjustments
    - AI naval fixes
    - Fixed the coding error causing CTDs when entering battles with new Gallic Cavalry

Oh cmon, the Hollywood praetorians are already a flag of SPQR, why not add the Ferres one's as Urbans and keep the Praetorians as they are now.
The SPQR praetorians need just a bit of tweaking on their left blade of their swords.

Thanks! It is working very well in my campaign

Is anyone of you fellow SPQR fans good at making an addon automatic, instead of manually instaling file by file?

    is LT ok with this?

well i have been out of the loop for a while, but i thought it was LT's policy to not let anyone release add-ons for the mod.

I am sure Sulla asked LT before releasing any thing. He did so with the Legat ancillaries so i am sure he asked again.

hmm... i know with the ancillaries it was something that LT tried for anyway

with the units i think the recruitable ones are more of an asthetic change for variety than anything else-unfortuanly i never got to the reforms before my great disaster so can't say for sure

the mercs i've not got round to testing yet so i don't know

i'll give a post on everything in a little while (stoped for dinner-lol)

Of course I discussed with LT! If he would not like this to be released I will respect that and keep it for myself only. I know the policy and LT has full veto power

In fact, LT has given me some directions to this, so it is not only done by me. Moreover, if I understood him correctly he intended to do this himself before his data loss, both the ancillaries addon and the extra units.

well sulla i've completed the testing now

first off all i played with the save game and tried out the eastern recruits

i played about 10 turns and had three battles with them
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
this is a picture from one of them
everything worked fine as far as i can tell but since i've never had a reforms battle i couldn't say if they 'feel' different to the originals

after this i tryed a new campaign and used the mercs-again i tried a couple of battles with them and there was no problems

i feel that the recruitable eastern troops are nice as an asthetic change, but i'm not so sure about the mercs

of course i'm not sure on the areas they will be available which will make the difference (batavian in gaul and samartian around the black sea)

i've got plenty more pictures if you want to see them but as none were perticullaly special i decided agaist posting them, except for a nice one i got while i was waiting for carthage to approch

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

yep but still if you release you still need LT's green light with respect this is his mod right and if ever you will be permitted you can test it for bugs before releasing as we all know SPQR is a stable mod.

if not then its for personal use only.

    Colonel Tavington in The Patriot!!

Sorry, totally off-topic, but I just figured out your avatar.

Also, perhaps "green light" is a smoother way to say "go signal". Not trying to be a jerk, it just took me a minute to figure out what you meant.

It does have the same meaning, certainly. Speaking as an American, "green light" is something I'm going to understand instantly, as opposed to "go signal" which means the same thing, but is generally not used in conversation.

It's just a syntax thing, take it or leave it.

Partly what I was trying to say my friend

I guess I am not so clear when writing , but hey, no worries, LT is supervising this. I am only doing what he had in mind himself before. Testing is going on now.

If, at the end of the day, LT decides not to release this as an official addon, then this will stay for my personal use.
