Most mods are installed quite easily:

When downloaded you typically need to extract it (rar. or zip.).
Place the mod in the 'modules' folder in the mount&blade directory.

    Program files > mount&blade > modules

Then launch the game and select the new mod from the drop down menu where it says 'current module'.

If you still have problems then ask again and write what mod you're trying to install, your OS and whether you bought M&B through Steam or not.

Hmm, the dreaded 'unable to open common res'

I don't know what could be wrong. Barbarian Invasion is for 1.010/1.011.
You could always try going to the BI forum and see if someone can help:

    er..

Are you meaning to say that you have mount and blade 1.011 and the mod you downloaded is compatible for mount and blade 1.003 or..?

What do you mean by Renaissance stuff? If you're referring to the 'Death of The Renaissance' mod, then it hasn't been released yet.
Or perhaps you mean Eagle and the Radiant Cross (early renaissance). I haven't tried that one, but it's an exe. file, so make sure you set the correct installation path.

If you want to install mods for older versions you need to install the older versions in separate directories. See the list of older versions in the sticky here

I found it! I just had to do a little more digging in my steam folder...... just so that other people know...... go into C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\mountblade warband\Modules...
