The color photo was invented in 1903 by the Lumiere brothers, and the French army was the only one taking color photos during the course of the war."

The Australian Light Horse Brigade on parade in a Palestinian desert, 1918.
this 1 is interesting..:
It looks like a painting by impressionist Edouard Manet, but it is a real color picture, made in 1914, by Jean-Baptiste Tournassoud, Commander of the Photography and Cinematography Section of the French Army.
When the Great War broke out, in 1914, French poilu's (common soldiers) still wore their Napoleontic uniforms with red trousers. They made perfect targets.
Tournassoud used an autochrome color plate. This photo technique was invented in 1907 in France by the Lumière brothers.

???
Those pics were mostly of civilians.
The picture was made on the French route of retreat to Paris in the first stage of the war. The photographer worked for the American Underwood & Underwood Agency.
The French had twelve regiments of cuirassiers, a survival of the 17th century, wearing steel cuirasses and helmets with horsehair plumes. They also carried a long double-edged stabbing sword
That is my turkish men right there... *wink*

I can't believe the French still had 12 regiments of heavy cavalry... those were outdated 60-80 years previous to the Great War, what were the French thinking? What the hell can a steel plate do against a rifle bullet?
This is my signature. Isn't it awesome?
He's a dagestani Turk. Turks don't end with the Ottomans Ruski... *wink*Nope, Dagestani.

AUTOCHROME
These are REAL colour photos no matter what other may say. However, due to the process involved these photos were one of a kind and could not be reproduced from a film negative (since they didn't have one).
Still here since December 2002
At sometime I patronized all these old bums:Necrobrit, Sulla, Scrappy Jenks, eldaran, Oldgamer, Ecthelion,Kagemusha, and adopted these bums: Battle Knight, Obi Wan Asterixand Muizer
Except this one. I'm pretty sure that has been colored afterwards. The ones in the first post are real color pics though.Originally posted by {nF}remix@Apr 28 2005, 02:00 AM

Cavalry was still useful for scouting in 1914, but that was about it. Steel plate wasn't useless though, in fact many world war one soldiers adopted steel plate as the war went on! Snipers and lookouts used armour that resembled the medieval knight: steel breastplate, armguards, and sometimes even closed or visored helmets as well.
Here are two examples of world war one body armour:
British body armour
German body armour
