Hi Really appreciate that you are trying to learn us "noobs" in modding (Or am I just speaking for myself here?) But in the first post, do we need to dwonload the Sample pack mod? Or the DemoMod Template? As they interfere with mods such as Darthmod, I dont want to mess up with anything, but if they are vital for the tutorial, then I will install it So, do we have to?
Interested in how Attila and the new LONGBEARDS DLC plays?

Not necessarily. You can create your own mod by following MrThib's excellent tutorial. As for the compatibility issues, consult the Mod Manager thread. The sample mod pack is just a template to give you a start for modding.

Okay, I've created a new unit of militia Cavalry for the Pirate faction and they work. I named them Mounted Scallywags and the name works, too.
However, I need to change their in-game description as it still describes the unit I cloned from which has nothing to do with pitares. Where would that file be?

[QUOTE=PowerWizard;4715558][*]Repeat this process (cloning the row of your chosen unit and renaming it.)with the other files as well:

    unit_stats_land
    unit_to_unit_abilities_junctions
    units
    units_to_exclusive_faction_permissions
    units_to_groupings_military_permissions

How to do this? With the building_units it was much easier, there were only one to copy and such, but here, there is so many different to choose from! Sorry for all my question, its my first try in the world of modding

    ^^
Go to these tables and clone the row of the unit you'd like to change.

You clone a row from unit_stats_land to get the stats for your unit which you can edit yourself (as you can all the other tables) to individualise.

the units table sets the more general attributes of a unit (cost, upkeep and so on).

unit_to_unit_abilities_junctions allows you to set special abilities for the unit.

building_units_allowed allows you to set at which buildings your unit will be recruitable from.

units_to_exclusive_faction and units_to_groupings_military add your unit to one of these to set which faction or group of factions is allowed to build the unit.

unit_required_technology sets what tech is needed to build your unit.

The answer's written in the first post.

Go to the localisation.loc tab in my_pack.pack and make an entry for your new unit

    "units_on_screen_name_my_customunit My Customunit" (for example)

This will give a screen name for your unit, hurray! It should appear in your game now (the fastest way to test this is to look for it in the custom battle setup page).
To make sure the screen name will appear in the game, open up the patch_en.pack and implement these screen name changes there too and save the file.

Ahem, sorry I wasn't clear. I created the unit and their name, so I'm not looking how to make names show up. I got that part.
*But* I need to change the description of the unit when you view the details. I saw nothing about descriptions in the localisation.loc

I see. I don't know the answer to that question. But if someone answers it I will update the first post.

The descriptions are in the same file (localisation.loc) under unit_description_texts_description_text_my_customunit.

edit: The long descriptions are under unit_description_texts_long_description_text_my_customunit.

The descriptions work exactly the same as the naming, although if you are altering/adding a long description make sure to leave the symbols at the beginningof the text.

edit: Oh and you can't +rep yet, you need 50 posts first

    Okay, thanks much.

Btw: Are you sure? I clicked green button, filled out the text "reason for adding reputation", and visually saw you gain rep.
Anyway, thanks again. I've created a new pirate unit with the name, and now to add the proper description. Arrr...

you really should make step 2 more in detail honestly what do i copy in unit_junctions or the other thigns i mean i dont want to sound rude but it seems that you care more about texturing the untis then how to make them honestly you say gov_type_permission wtf do i do their? then you say localisation wtf do i do their PLEASE i beg you redo the 2nd part of the tutorial the part that matters sigh im mad man i gonna sound like a dick for this but man this tutorial is really in need of help LOl or i just suck i want a good tutorial so i can use MY mod pack and make units sigh...watever ill just never make units unless this tutorial gets a massive overhaul because honestly it looks to me you want to help people texture their units more then make them i just want to copy polands line infantry and give them swords but i cant. this tutorial makes since onyl a little. so by the love god honestly did you read what you posted? or can you show us a step by step guide with pics too for the MAKEING of the unit not texture.
