yes i agree that most americans dont really try to understand politics-most my friends are like "go kerry! go democrat!" and yet they have no idea why-it was quite sad for me seeing as they couldnt back anything up...anyway-as for why let them in? not sure-i havent really thought about it and honestly havent researched anything on it-but its my personal feeling that if someone wants to be an American, why stop them?
hey like i said-i really dont know much about this topic, so i see no reason to say no to it happening

Well, at least explain why adding the entirety of "North America" to the U.S. would be a good idea. I fail to see how making poor nations into American states benefits the American public. And believe me, Canada wants no part of being "American."Originally posted by Nationalist_Cause+Apr 26 2005, 02:44 PM--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td> (Nationalist_Cause @ Apr 26 2005, 02:44 PM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'> <!--QuoteBegin-SovietDoom@Apr 26 2005, 02:40 PM
The Caribbean is technically part of the North American continent.
Im sorry if you thought I meant the CONTINENTAL North America. I mean the whole thing.
How would the U.S. benefit from making Puerto Rico a state in any significant manner that makes it worth the trouble? [/b][/quote]
I dunno, I just think it would be cool.
WE GO PLAY SOME HOOP
If they want statehood, great. Doesn't hurt me, so I am fine with that. If they want independance, go ahead! Nationalism is great (although it could be argued that it leads to racism and started two world wars... :sad but I doubt Puerto Rico is the next germany :p). And if they want to stay like they are right now, which there is good reason to do, fine. Whatever makes people happy.
That said, I am elitist. I would rather have the people happy than sad, but I don't think everyone should be involved. But in this case, I think it should be popular demand. Who wants what? As soon as someone has a majority (51%? or 2/3?) then that decision should be accepted.
50 is a nice number. No need to change it.![]()

I myslef think that newyoricans give us a bad name, i been to the areas were they lived and is crap, lol most puertoricans dont even look like the latino type you would think of us. Yeah we have citezenship but to mi its more of a second clase citencenship aslong as we cant vote for the people who realy make desicion in our island (the congress and the president) and the only way that could happen is by becoming a state, because were never gona be independent, if the independence party only pull on avrege 4% of the voters which is barely inofe to be able to run in the next election let alone wine a referendum.A big ubsticle i see is the electoral votes problem having a population about 4 million people that would take some electoral votes from other states if im correct, im not very well versed in the electoral collage and stuff, and senators of those states would not like that, also i just remember Bush has stated several times that he supports a referendum to finaly resolve this by only puting independence and statehood in the valets and not ading "non of the above" like we did last time( I hate those fake pro-independence people that switch so statehood would'nt win) and its the forst time someone from the us goverment supports a referendum and that great, now the problo his how to pass it through our senate that the governor keep vetowing every resolotion that dosent have a constitutional comity in it( which is basicly the parties choose some delegates which in turn choose the way we are going to live the rest of our lives) HELL NO!!, Puertorican poloticians are the most corropt poloticians in existence and we can get the judicial branch to do anything cause the are in the govermental payroll and personaly elected by the governor himself, damn basterds!!!

1. Puertoricans are NOT U.S. citizens.
2. Puertoricans that join the U.S. military do not recieve U.S. citizenship after their required service.
3. Puertoricans enjoy a U.S. Government tax free Federal income tax environment but are paying for large import taxes on the most common of grocery products.
4. Puertorico itself is a protectorate of the U.S.
5. Puertorico as a whole has a more thriving economy then many of the island economies throughout the Carribean nations.
6. Puertoricans can not vote in U.S. national elections.
7. Try living in Puertorico for awhile and draw your own conclusion of the island nation.
Just my two cents worth as I use to live there for two years.

that is completly true, do i am a US citizen but thats because my grandmother took the test to become one, and that import tax is horrible my father had to pay over 7,000 dollars in taxes not including all the money wasted on the import tax a year and the tax on grocery type product is the foult of PPD(pro- protectorate party) including also the maintening of the import tax as the PNP( pro-statehood party) was advocating to change it into a sales tax but not taxing foods and medicine that were considered vital to the people :cool, yeah but that bill was rejectedOriginally posted by MizuTahanaman@Apr 26 2005, 10:35 PM

The first language of the island nation is Spanish and the second is English.

I wish I could post something relative to the thread but I don't post often here and I have no experience in taxes. I'll just hop on the bandwagon and say if the Puerto Ricans want to be a State let them. (Atleast I'm honest eh?) Actually, the United States has had only 50 states for 55 years and if they were really interested in having another state they could've had one quite awhile ago (Maybe not). The US had occupied the Philippines for quite awhile, "acquiring" it the same year as they did Puerto Rico. IMO Had the US truly wanted more states they should've held on more tightly to Cuba and the Philippines.

SecureROM is stupid....
I'm not suprised. There's too much 'streetball' in American basketball. You should check out Lithuanian basketball players; they're really good and they say white men can't jump. Ha!Originally posted by Total Warrior X@Apr 27 2005, 01:08 AM

Its because American players care more about the money than national pride.
On topic: Well, if it does happen, what are we going to do? I wonder, has there been a gallup poll done on this? What do Americans think about it? Shouldn't the American public be consulted before adding another island as a state? They should, but naturally, the American government isn't listening. Over 70% of Americans oppose illegal immigration, and we get an amnesty plan from Bush. Go figure.
I would rather say that Isreal is the 51st state!
Remember Cuba and the Philipines opoced the US controling their govement, would the US want to have states that had aguerrilla war going on in them?Originally posted by EeSang@Apr 26 2005, 11:50 PM
