    Default Researching / Techs

What's the best way to research technologies?
I've tried 1 school in every province, scholars at school + republics. I didn't notice any difference in my research times. I'm not even search how to steal techs.

So far the only way I found getting ahead in techs is to sit tights the first 20 rurns developing a stable economy and pumping money into schools non stop.

    Any suggestions would be helpful.

Upgrading schools, researching philosophy and gentlemen present in them all decrease research times.

Also have three schools, one for Industry, one for Philosophy and one for Military. Whenever you get a gentleman, check if his traits and put him where he fits in best.

Have 4 schools, upgrade to max, and research the technolergies that enable you to research better schools. I'm not sure if you can get more than 4 schools that actually function, but you can definitely have 4 schools. Also, if another nation has techs that you don't have, trade them for it, offer them any tech you have to get them to accept the deal, then murder them before they can use it or sell it to someone else.

A Ishoss says - have at least three schools - one for each category of technology, and specialise each with gentlemen - They spawn with attributes that fit one of the three schools, so assign them accordingly. Constant specialisation eventually gives you short research times on most things, but won't happen straight away of course.

Also, as you expand and capture new schools, specialise them with gentlmen aswel.
    In my last British campaign for example, I had;

    Oxford - Miltiary (Naval)
    Cambridge - Industrial
    Manchester - Enlightenment
Calcutta Province (can't remember the town name) - Military (Infantry)
Hindustan Province - Military (Artillery)/Industrial (Factory)

Dismantle an existing church/inn/weaver/workshop in a region and you'll be able to build a new school on the next turn.

You can make new schools by destroying other buildings in a region, then rebuilding on that land plot as a school instead. Make sure it's a secure area with excellent happiness before you do so, with at least one building in the region to restore happiness that you will lose via the school's penalties to the lower class's happiness (in particular in my case).
Researching is possible with more than 4 schools, you just have to move the screen over using golden arrows that appear when you have more than 4. Be careful about making too many schools; it reduces your income in the short term by a large amount.

Is it so hard to read the sticky or the announcement? They are at the top of the page with BIG LETTERS. Don't start threads on the same topic, but find an existing one and post there please.

Already a thread on this topic here:

I apologize PowerWizard. I realize moderators are swamped atm. There were just so many pages of threads that sifting through them wasn't working well. I read the stickies and ignored the one about new threads. I know that sounds worse but I at least want to admit that.

Thanks for all the advice on research everyone. Getting used to Empire and playing via Steam is taking time.
